    10 - 20

    20 - 30

    30 - 40

    40 - 50

    frequency

  • Question 4

A pair of dice is thrown. Find the probability of obtaining a sum of 8 or getting an even number on both the dice.

    Solution

Let the events be defined as:

    A: Obtaining a sum of 8

B: Getting an even number on both dice

    Now cases favourable to A are (3, 5)(5, 3)(2, 6)(6, 2)(4, 4)

    So, P(A) = 5/36

  • Question 5

Ramu works 4 times as fast as Somu. If Somu can complete a work in 20 days independently, then the number of days in which Ramu and Somu together can complete the work is:

    Solution

    Given:

Ramu works 4 times as fast as Somu.

Somu can complete a work in =20 days

    Formula:

Total work = Efficiency × Time

    Calculation:

Let efficiency of Somu be 1 unit/day

The efficiency of Ramu =4 unit/day

    Total work = 1 × 20 = 20 unit

∴ Time taken by Ramu and Somu to complete the same work

The length of the base of a triangle is 5/7 of the base of a parallelogram. The area of the triangle and the parallelogram is the same. Find the ratio of the respective heights of the triangle and the parallelogram.

    Solution

    ⇒TP=145

∴ The required ratio of the respective heights of the triangle and the parallelogram is 14 ∶ 5.

  • Question 9

In Δ ABC, ∠B = 90° and ∠A = 45°. If the length of its hypotenuse is 8 units, then the length of any other side (in units) is:

    Solution

    Given:

    In Δ ABC,

    ∠B = 90° and ∠A = 45°

    In right angled triangle

    (Hypotenuse)2 = (Base)+ (Perpendicular)2

    In Δ ABC,

    ⇒ ∠A + ∠B + ∠C = 180°

    ⇒ 45° + 90° + ∠C = 180°

    ⇒ ∠C = 180° - 135°

    ⇒ ∠C = 45°

    and

Given triangle is right angled triangle because ∠B = 90° then,

    ⇒ (8)2 = AB2 + BC2

∠A and ∠C are equal so opposite sides of ∠A and ∠B also equal.

    ⇒ AB = BC

    ⇒ (8)2 = AB2 + AB2

    ⇒ 2AB2 = 64

    ⇒ AB2 = 32

    ⇒ AB = 4√2

∴ The length of any other two sides (in units) is 4√2.
