According to market sources, mobile wallet, payment gateways and e-payment companies alone are planning to spend around Rs 150 crore to organise camps, media campaigns around awareness programmes. Mobile wallet major Paytm has announced a 100-member merchant helpdesk to educate merchants across India. The company also plans to invest close to Rs 50 crore on this drive. This initiative will be implemented with a multi-channel outreach programme involving mass media, on-ground initiatives and strengthening in-house merchant support team. With around 1.5 million merchants accepting Paytm at present, the company aims to work closely with the merchants by seeking feedback and helping them understand digital payments. Under this programme, merchants will be educated on all the important aspects, which are currently becoming a concern and dispelling a lot of myth around safety, security and delay in money transfer to the bank account. The company will also use mass media to sensitize merchants on all these aspects. "Under this programme, the helpdesk will educate its users that the delay in transfer in a few cases is accounted due to the banking systems which are going through stress due to load spikes or may not respond due to downtime or network fluctuation at the their end. In such cases, banks could take up to seven working days to credit the amount in the bank account," said Sudhanshu Gupta, vice-president, Paytm. Paytm, one of the most sought after digital payments platforms, has launched a drive across India to inform merchants and customers in every district about the benefits of using its payments platform. This is a part of the company's long-term vision to bring half a billion Indians to the mainstream economy by 2020, the company said in a statement. They said, they have instituted team to educate the common man about the convenience of using Paytm. They said to carry out the mission; their team is conducting sessions and workshops across schools, colleges, village Panchayats and trade bodies. Kiran Vasireddy, Senior vice president, Paytm, said, "Hundreds of thousands of people have reached out to us over the last couple of weeks with their queries and feedback. To further fuel this growth, we have set up awareness camps across all major cities, towns and villages. Our aim is to reach every single market across all districts and assist millions of Indians in their efforts to adopt a digital lifestyle."Announcing that it will enable five million merchants to leapfrog to digital payments in 2017, mobile payment and e-commerce platform Paytm on Tuesday launched an array of new features to enhance security and increase usability both for consumers and merchants. The company has also started working upstream with distribution networks in order to enable merchants who accept Paytm do business with their suppliers as well. "While our field teams work on educating and on boarding merchants to accept Paytm, we understand that it is a need for our retailers to also be able to pay their suppliers digitally and we are working towards that," said Sudhanshu Gupta, Vice President, Paytm, in a statement. In the last 45 days, Paytm has introduced several new features to enable every Indian accept and pay using Paytm.
