A boat goes 240 km along the stream in 12 hours while it goes 100 km in 10 hours against the stream. How much time the boat will take to cover 210 km distance in still water?

    Solution

    Given:

Boat goes 240 km along the distance in 12 hours.

Boat goes 100 km along the distance in 10 hours.

    We know that:

  • Question 3

The New Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express leaves New Delhi at 16: 50 hours on 25th November 2022 and reaches Howrah at 12: 05 hours on 26th November 2022. If the average speed of the train is 80 km per hour, what is the distance between New Delhi and Howrah?

    Solution

To calculate the distance between New Delhi and Howrah, we can use the formula: Distance = Speed x Time

We know the average speed of the train is 80 km/hour. To calculate the time taken by the train to travel from New Delhi to Howrah, we can subtract the departure time from the arrival time: Time = Arrival Time - Departure Time

    Time = 12:05 on 26th November 2022 - 16:50 on 25th November 2022 = 19 hours and 15 minutes

Now, we can substitute the values in the formula: Distance = Speed x Time

    Distance = 80 km/hour x 19.25 hours = 1540 km (approx.)

  • Question 4
    1 / -0.33

The ratio of the first and second class fares between two railway stations is 4 : 1 and that of the number of passengers traveling by first and second classes is 1 : 40. If on a day Rs. 1,100 are collected as to total fare, the amount collected from the first-class passengers is:

    Solution

Let the fare of second-class be x, then the fare of first-class be 4x

Let the number passengers traveling in first-class be y, then number of passenger in second-class = 40y

Now, total collection of one day = (fare of first-class × number of passenger in first-class)+ (fare of second class × number of passenger in second class)

    = (4x × y) + (x × 40y)= 4xy + 40xy= 1100 ⇒ 44xy = 1100

    Therefore, xy = 1100/44 = 25

    So, amount collected by the first-class passenger = 4xy = 4×25= Rs. 100

  • Question 5
    1 / -0.33

The average score of 84 students (boys and girls) in a test is 57. The ratio of the number of boys to that of girls is 10 ∶ 11. The average score of boys is 20% less than that of girls. What is the average score of girls in the test?

    Solution

    The Total marks scored by 84 students = 84 × 57 = 4788

Let the Number of boys and girls = 10x and 11x

    ∴10x + 11x = 84 ⇒ 21x = 84 ⇒ x = 4

    Number of Boys =10x = 10 × 4 = 40

    Number of Girls = 11x = 11 × 4 = 44

Average score of boys = (80/100) × Average score of girls ⇒ (Average score of boys) : (Average score of girls) = 4:5

Let the Average score of boys =4y, Average score of girls =5y

    Total marks scored by 40 boys = 40 × (4y) = 160y

    Total marks scored by 44 girls = 44 × (5y) = 220y

    ∴ 160y + 220y = 4788 ⇒ 380y = 4788

  • Question 6
    1 / -0.33

The present ages of A and B are in the ratio 15 : 8. After 8 years their ages will be in the ratio 17 : 10. What will be the ratio of the ages of A and B after 10 years from now?

    Solution

  • Question 7
    1 / -0.33

If the mark price of an article is 800 and it is being sold at two consecutive discount of 20% and 10%. Then find the selling price of the article.

    Solution

    Given:

Mark price of the article is 800 and the consecutive discounts are 20% and 10%.

    Formula:

    = 224

So, Selling price = Mark price - Discount

    = 800 - 224

    = 576

∴ The Selling price of the article is 576.

Select the number that can replace the question mark (?) in the following series.

    25, 5, 49, 10, 81, 20, 121, ?

    Solution

    It consists of two series.

    Series 1:

    25, 49, 81, 121

    Logic:

    52=25

    (5+2)2=72=49

    (5+2+2)2=92=81

    (5+2+2+2)2=112=121

    Series 2:

    5, 10, 20, ?

    Logic:

    5×2=10

    10×2=20

    20×2=40
