  • Question 1
    1 / -0
Mean of 10 values is 32.6. If another values is included the mean becomes 31. The included value is
    Solution
    Included value $$\displaystyle =31\times 11-32.6\times 10=15$$
  • Question 2
    1 / -0
The algebraic sum of the deviations of a set of value of a data from their mean is
    Solution
If $$\bar{x_{1}}$$ and $$\bar{x_{2}}$$ are the means of the two groups computed from the values $$n^{1}$$ and $$n^{1}$$ then the mean $$\bar{x}$$ is given by the formula
    $$\bar{x}$$ = $$\frac{n_{1}\bar{x_{1}+n_{2}}\bar{x_{2}}}{n_{1}+n_{2}}$$
    So $$x^{1}+x_{2}+x_{2}..........x_{n}=n\bar{x}$$
Replacing each observation by $$\bar{x}$$ , we get
    $$\bar{x}+\bar{x}+\bar{x}............\bar{x}=n\bar{x}$$
If every value of the variable x is either increased, decreased, divided or multiplied by a constant, the observations so obtained also increases, decreases, gets multiplied or gets divided respectively by the same constant.
Algebraic sum of the deviation of a set of values from their arithmetic mean is 0
  • Question 3
    1 / -0
    Which of the following is not changed for the observations $$31, 48, 50, 60, 25, 8, 3x, 26, 32?$$ (where $$x$$ lies between $$10$$ and $$15$$)
    Solution
Range of a set of data is the difference between highest and lowest values in the set.

    Observations: For $$x\in (10, 15), 31, 48, 50, 60, 25, 8, 3x, 26, 32$$
    Order: $$8, 25, 26, 30, 31, 32, 33, 39, 42, 45, 48, 50, 60$$
    Range$$=$$highest$$-$$lowest$$=60-8=52$$
    $$\therefore$$ Range doesn't changes.
  • Question 4
    1 / -0
The arithmetic mean of first five natural number is
    Solution
    Formula used:
    $$\text{Arithmetic mean}= \dfrac{\text{Sum of given numbers}}{\text{Total numbers}}$$

Apply the above formula, we get
    $$\text{Arithmetic mean}=\cfrac{1+2+3+4+5}{5}$$
    $$=3$$
  • Question 5
    1 / -0
If the standard deviation for the marks obtained by a student in monthly tests is 36 then the variance is
    Solution
Standard deviation defined the square root of varian
    Standard deviation=$$\sqrt{variance}$$
    Given Standard deviation=36
    $$36=\sqrt{V}$$  (where V is s tendered deviation
    Square both sides
    $$(36)^{2}=V\Rightarrow V=1296$$

  • Question 6
    1 / -0
    Consider the data: $$2, 3, 2, 4, 5, 6, 4, 2, 3, 3, 7, 8, 2, 2$$. The frequency of $$2$$ is _____
    Solution
Number of times $$ 2 $$ occurs in the given data is $$ 5 $$

    So, frequency of $$ 2 $$ in given data is $$ 5 $$.
  • Question 7
    1 / -0
The difference between he maximum and the minimum observations in the data is
    Solution
In statistics, range is defined simply as the difference between the maximum and minimum observations. It is intuitively obvious why we define range in statistics this way - range should suggest how diversely spread out the values are, and by computing the difference between the maximum and minimum values, we can get an estimate of the spread of the data.
Then difference between he maximum and the minimum observations in the data is range

  • Question 8
    1 / -0
    The range of the data
    25,18,20,22,16,6,17,12,30,32,10,19,8,11,20 is
    Solution
The range of the data=Highest vale-lowest value
    Highest value= 36
    Lowest value=6
    $$\therefore$$Range of the data=$$32-6=24$$
  • Question 9
    1 / -0
The _____ is the value that appears most often in a set of data.
    Solution
The mode is the value that appears most often in a set of data.
    Example: In a group of data: $$2, 3, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 8, 5$$
$$5$$ is the mode. (Since $$5$$ occurs $$3$$ three times in the given data)
  • Question 10
    1 / -0
Mode of the distribution is that value of the variate for which the_____is_____
    Solution
Mode of the distribution is that value of the variate for which the frequency is maximum.
