Hint: Decline in biodiversity is caused by human behavior, interfering with the natural ecosystem.
Part 1- Biodiversity:
It is defined as a variety of living organisms (plants and animals) present in a particular habitat (niche). Biodiversity is important as it sustains life by providing organisms with food, water and oxygen.
Part 2- Causes of decrease in biodiversity:
Biodiversity loss or degradation is a threat to sustenance of life on Earth. The loss is caused due to following main reason;
Pollution
Population explosion
Encroachment of forestland
Introduction of exotic species
Overexploitation of natural resources
The above factors interferes with the natural course of ecosystem and renders life on various trophic levels, thus disturbing the biodiversity.
Part 3- Conclusion:
Human interference with nature disturbs the biodiversity. For instance, increase in population ultimately increases the demand of food, leading to overexploitation of natural resources and thus destruction of nature (habitat to many animals and plants).
Final Step: The most important reason for biodiversity loss is destroying natural habitats.
