[passage-header]Read the passage given below and answer the question that follows: [/passage-header]Scarce diamonds are more valuable than the clusters of smaller crystals known as bort and carbonado. These diamonds are large single crystals of genuine crystalline carbon. Diamonds are found in the diamantiferous earth that is located in both open-air pits and underground mines. To retrieve the diamonds, the earth is crushed and concentrated. The concentrated material is then sorted by passing it over streams of water on greased tables. Since diamonds are water repellent, they will stick to the grease while the other minerals will absorb water and pass over the grease. The diamonds are then removed from the grease and cleaned, examined, sorted, and graded. The best diamonds are noted for their cleavage, their translucence, and their color. All diamonds have a natural line of cleavage along which they may be split and it is essential to split them before they are cut and polished. Before they are cut and polished, they look like tiny blue-grey stones; they do not twinkle or shine yet. A perfectly cut and polished diamond has 58 faces arranged regularly over its surface. It will be translucent and colorless, blue, white, green or yellow. The value of a jewel diamond depends largely on its color, or 'water', as it is called professionally. A stone of the finest water is blue-white.

    Directions For Questions

[passage-header]Read the following passage carefully and answer the question given below:[/passage-header]People are seldom aware that their comfortable living depends upon the work of several thousands of persons. The first thing, for instance, almost everyone looks forward to in the morning is a hot cup of tea. This cup of tea involves the work of thousands of people. This can be easily shown. Consider the number of things we require to prepare a cup of tea, such as clean drinking water, tea, sugar, milk, gas, burner, pot, crockery, strainer, spoon and so on.

Tea is grown in distant plantations and made available to the consumers through a vast network employing hundreds of workers. Consider further the machinery required for sugar mills. The production of this machinery involves a long chain of processes and operations - mining of coal and iron ore, manufacture of steel and machine tools, in which thousands of workers are employed. The same argument holds good with regard to the supply of milk. The production of other items such as gas, burner, crockery, spoons, etc., requires the service of hundreds of workers. And recall how agitated we are if the milk van is late in the morning, maybe because its tire has burst on the way. This may be due to its poor maintenance or the poor condition of the roads.

What does the word 'agitated' mean?
    Solution
The passage speaks about how a single cup of tea requires the work of thousands of people, but we've never stopped to think about it. We have our own schedule formed, from the time we wake up. Every morning there's a particular time that the milk van supplies the milk, so that's also a part of our schedule, on the basis of which we make our tea and breakfast. When the van gets late in the morning, it disturbs this schedule of ours, hence we get 'agitated'. 'Agitated' means 'to get disturbed'. From the options given below, the one closest to the meaning of 'agitated' is 'upset' as it also means 'to be disturbed' as it's out of the daily time that one expects someone/thing to arrive, so something arriving late can upset/disturb one's timing. Hence option A is correct. 'Angry' is a very strong emotion, a feeling of resentment which is caused by something severe, whereas the milk van coming late is not a situation so severe to make someone angry. Hence 'agitated' does not mean 'angry' and option B is incorrect. 'Serious' means 'something that is critical and requires deep thought'. This does not mean the same as agitated, we would not go into a deep thought if the van came late, hence option C is incorrect. 'Unhappy' is a state of an emotion, 'sadness', it can last for a while, but it doesn't have the same meaning as agitated, as we would not be sad if the milk van arrived late, hence option D is incorrect.
