What is the profit% of the marker on selling price?

    Statement:

    I. The marker is marked 15% above the cost price.

II. A discount of 4% is given and the cost price the marker is Rs. 250.

    Solution

    Statement I:

Relation between MRP and CP is given, but the CP is not given.

Statement I alone is not sufficient.

    Statement II:

    CP \(=\) Rs. \(250\)

    MRP = Rs. \(\frac{115}{100} \times 250=\) Rs. \(287.5\)

    \(\mathrm{SP}=\mathrm{MRP} \times\left(1-\frac{D}{100}\right)\)

    \(\Rightarrow \mathrm{SP}=287.5 \times\left(1-\frac{4}{100}\right)=\) Rs. \(276\)

    Profit \(=\) Rs. \((276-250)=\) Rs. \(26\)

    Now, Profit % on SP \(=\frac{P}{S P} \times 100\)

    \(=\frac{26}{276} \times 100=9.4 \%\)

\(\therefore\) The statement I and statement II both are needed to answer the question.

Find average speed of entire journey.

    Statements:

    I. A train travel at \(20\) km/hr for first two hours. Then it travels at \(40\) km/hr for the next \(\frac{9}{5}\) hours. Then train completed \(\frac{8}{11}\) part of its journey.

II. Train completed the remaining journey in next \(\frac{6}{5}\) hours.

    Solution

    Formula:

    Speed \(=\frac{\text { Distance }}{\text { Time }}\)

    Average speed \(=\frac{\text { (Total Distance) }}{\text { (Total time taken) }}\)

    Statement I:

Distance covered in first two hours \(=20 \times 2=40\) km

Distance covered in next \(\left(\frac{9}{5}\right)\) hours \(=40 \times \frac{9}{5}=72\) km

So, \(\frac{8}{11}\) part of its journey \(=72\) km

    Total Distance \(=72 \times\left(\frac{11}{8}\right)=99\) km

\(\therefore\) The statement I alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

    Statement II:

    Remaining time \(=\frac{6}{5}\) hours

Total time and total distance we get.

\(\therefore\) Statement II alone is not sufficient.

\(\therefore\) Statement I and Statement II together are sufficient, but neither of the two alone is sufficient to answer the question.

  • Question 3

Find the total time taken by Ram and Suhani working together to complete the work.

    Statements:

    I. Ram takes double time of Suhani to complete \(\left(\frac{1}{3}\right)\) part of the work.

II. Suhani completes the work in \(5\) days.

    Solution

    Statement I:

If Suhani take 'x' days to complete the work.

THen Ram take '2x' days to complete \(\left(\frac{1}{3}\right)\) part of the work.

So, Ram take total '6x' days.

\(\therefore\) The statement I alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

    Statement II:

Suhani take 5 days to complete the work.

Then Ram take 30 days to complete the work.

So, we can calculate total days taken by together.

\(\therefore\) Statement II alone is not sufficient.

From Statement I and Statement II:

Total time taken by Ram and Suhani together to complete the work \(=\frac{1}{5}+\frac{1}{30}=\frac{7}{30}\)

\(\therefore\) Statement I and Statement II together are sufficient, but neither of the two alone is sufficient to answer the question.

  • Question 4

    Statements:

    I. A man is standing at bridge. Distance from starting point is 250 m and from end of the bridge is 330 m.

II. If a train takes 5 minutes to cross whole bridge at 2 m/s.

    Find length of the train?

    Solution

    Statement I:

    Total length of bridge = 250 + 330 = 580 m

∴ The statement I alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

    Statement II:

    Total distance covered by train = 5 × 60 × 2 = 600 m

    Length of train = 600 - 580 = 20 m

∴ Statement II alone is not sufficient.

∴ Statement I and Statement II together are sufficient, but neither of the two alone is sufficient to answer the question.

Two trains running in the opposite direction crosses each other in 46 seconds. What is the sum of their lengths?

    Statements:

    I. Sum of the speed of the trains is 23 m/s.

II. Difference in the speed of the trains is 6 m/s.

    Solution

    Statement I:

Sum of the speeds is given, which is equal to relative speed while in opposite direction.

Formula used: Distance = Speed × Time

    Distance = 23 × 46 = 1058 m

Distance = sum of the lengths of the both trains.

So, Statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question.

    Statement II:

    Difference in speed is given.

Relative speed cannot be calculated from difference of speed.

So, Statement II is not sufficient to answer the question.

∴ The statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question but, statement II alone is not sufficient.

What percent of the total branches under survey provide the Online credit card application facility?

    Solution

    From the Pie chart:

Number of branches of State bank of India under survey = 5000 × 0.35 = 1750

Number of branches of Punjab national Bank under survey = 5000 × 0.24 = 1200

    Number of branches of Allahabad Bank under survey = 5000 × 0.25 = 1250

Number of branches of Bank of Baroda under survey = 5000 × 0.16 = 800

    From the bar graph:

Number of branches of State bank of India providing Online credit card application facility = 1750 × 0.06 = 105

Number of branches of Punjab national Bank providing the Online credit card application facility = 1200 × 0.1 = 120

Number of branches of Allahabad Bank providing the Online credit card application facility = 1250 × 0.2 = 250

Number of branches of Bank of Baroda providing the Online credit card application facility = 800 × 0.4 = 320

    ∴ Total branches under survey which provide the Online credit card application facility = 105 + 120 + 250 + 320 = 795

    ∴ Required percentage =7955000 × 100 = 15.9%

What is the difference of sum of number of branches of State bank and Punjab national bank which provide Online Bill payment facility and the sum of number of branches of Allahabad bank and Bank of Baroda which provide Online deposit facility?

Number of branches of State bank of India providing Online Bill payment facility = 1750 × 0.9 = 1575

Number of branches of Punjab national Bank providing Online Bill payment facility = 1200 × 0.8 = 960

∴ Sum of number of branches of State bank and Punjab national bank which provide Online Bill payment facility = 1575 + 960 = 2535

Number of branches of Allahabad Bank providing the Online deposit facility = 1250 × 0.7 = 875

Number of branches of Bank of Baroda providing the Online deposit facility = 800 × 0.5 = 400

∴ Sum of number of branches of Allahabad bank and Bank of Baroda which provide Online deposit facility = 875 + 400 = 1275

    ∴ Required difference = 2535 – 1275 = 1260
