  • Question 1
    4 / -1

Electrolysis of dilute aqueous  solution was carried out by passing 10 milli ampere current. The time required to liberate 0.01 mol of H2 gas at the cathode is:

    Solution

  • Question 2
    4 / -1

    Solution

When atoms of two or more elements in a chemical compound form a chemical bond by sharing one electron, the bond formed between it is called sigma bond. The atoms of two atoms form a sigma bond, co-axial or linear overlapping of orbitals. It is the primary band that is found in single, double, and triple bonds.

    Correct order:

  • Question 3

Using mass (M), length (L), time (T) and current (A) as fundamental quantities, the dimensions of permeability are

    Solution

Talking about its dimensional formula first we should know that it is equal to the ratio of the intensity of magnetic field ( simply magnetic field ) to the magnetizing field ( i.e. the to which a magnetic field can magnetize a material ). And a unit of magnetizing field is Ampere per meter.

Hence, the correct option is (C).

  • Question 4

Drosophila melanogaster has 8 chromosomes in its somatic cells. How many linkage groups will be there?

    Solution

The latter are found to be hereditary in genes located on the same chromosome. This latter of genes is called "linkage", whereas genes that are established on the same chromosome and are hereditary together are called linked genes. The attachment was discovered by Bateson. The number of linkage groups in an organism is equal to the haploid number of chromosomes. In Drosophila melanogaster, 2n=8, hence n=4 linkage groups.

Hence, the correct option is (A).

  • Question 5

Two photons of energies twice and thrice the work function of the metal is incident on the metal surface. The ratio of maximum velocities of the photoelectrons emitted in the two cases, respectively, is:

    Solution

  • Question 6

In the circuit given, the correct relation to a balanced Wheatstone bridge is:

    Solution

The bridge is said to be balanced when deflection in the galvanometer is zero i.e., no current flows through the galvanometer or in other words V= VD

In the balanced condition P/Q = R/S, on mutually changing the position of cell and galvanometer, this condition will not change.

Therefore, in the circuit given, the correct relation to a balanced Wheatstone bridge is P/R = Q/S

Hence, the correct option is (C).

  • Question 7
    4 / -1

The circuit shown in the figure contains two diodes D1 and D2, each with a forward resistance of 50 ohms and infinite backward resistance. If the battery voltage is 6 V, the current (in amperes) through the 100 ohm resistance is

    Solution

  • Question 8
    4 / -1

A gas is compressed isothermally to half its initial volume. The same gas is compressed separately through an adiabatic process until its volume is again reduced to half. Then,

    Solution

From the graph, we can see that for compression of gas, area under the curve for adiabatic is more than isothermal process.

Therefore, compressing the gas through adiabatic process will require more work to be done.

  • Question 9

Which one of the following is the most widely accepted method of contraception in India, at present?

    Solution

At present, the most widely accepted method of contraception in India is IUDs (Intra Uterine Devices). These devices are effective and popular these devices are inserted by doctors and expert nurse in the uterus through vagina.

Hence, the correct option is (D).

  • Question 10

The difference between oogenesis and spermatogenesis is:

    Solution

Oogenesis is formation of female gametes while spermatogenesis is formation of male gametes. Both begins with primary mother cells in the gonads. Primary oocyte undergoes meiosis 1 and forms secondary oocyte and first polar body while Primary spermatocyte undergoes meiosis1 and forms two secondary spermatocyte. The process is the same in both but the daughter cells formed are different. In oogenesis, the daughter cells are of unequal size i.e. secondary oocyte is larger than the first polar body because secondary oocyte has maximum amount of cytoplasm retained in it. This unequal division is important because incase sperms approach these gametes, there is a chance of fertilization and zygote formation. Hence cytoplasm can act as stored food for the zygote. While in spermatogenesis the daughter cells formed are of same size as seen in Meiosis of other cells. This is the main difference.

Hence, the correct option is (D).
