Which of the following is non- degenerate codons?

    Solution

Genetic codon is inter – relationship between nucleotide sequence of DNA or mRNA and amino acid sequence in a polypeptide. It is expressed in the form of protein which is made up of 20 different types of amino acids.

    • Some amino acids are coded by more than one codon, hence the code is called as degenerate codeE.g.: Serine, leucine, arginine by 6 codon

    • Proline, valine, glycine, alanine, and threonine by 4 codon.

    • While to the exception to degeneracy of code, non- degenerate are AUG (Methionine) and UGG (Tryptophan)

Which of the following disorder result into 44+XXY type chromosome complement?

    Solution

Klinefelter’s syndrome is caused due to presence of and additional copy of X- chromosomes resulting into 44+XXY type chromosome complement. They defect appears due to union of an abnormal egg (22+Y) or normal egg (22+X) and abnormal sperm (22+XY).
    Characteristics:

    i. Sterile male

    ii. Overall masculine development

    iii. Feminine pitched voice

    iv. Gynaecomastia

    • Turner’ syndrome: This order is due to monosomy.

    • Down syndrome: disorder develops due to trisomy of chromosomes number 21.

    • Thalassemia: It is a recessive autosomal genetic disorder caused by defects in the synthesis of globin polypeptide in RBC.

The attachment of t-RNA to the larger subunit of ribosome is done through which loop

    Solution

The 2-D structure of tRNA appears clover leaf like but 3-D structure appears L shaped. There are some places where the formation of hydrogen bonds does not take place. These places are called as loops
    Types of loops:

    i. T Ψ C Loops: This loop connects t-RNA to the larger subunit of ribosomes.

ii. Recognition loops: This help the tRNA to recognize its place on m-RNA

iii. DHU Loops: Also known as amino acyl synthesis recognition loops whose function is to activate a specific type of amino acid.
