  • Question 1
    4 / -1

    Opening of flower and drooping of a bud are:

    Solution

    Nastic movements are non-directional movements in which the direction of response or movement is determined by the epinasty (greater growth on the adaxial side, e.g., the opening of flowers), hyponasty (greater growth on abaxial side e.g., closing of flowers), thigmotactic or chemonastic bending of tentacles in Drosera. Thermonastic movements occur in the opening and drooping of Tulip and Crocus flowers. In epinasty opening of fern leaf and spreading of sepal and petals during the opening of the floral bud.

    Hence, the correct option is (B).

  • Question 2
    4 / -1

    At the centre of a cubical box +Q charge is placed. The value of total

    flux that is coming out of each face is:

    Solution

    Given:

    Charge on cubical box (qin ) = Q

    The Gaussian law is given as,

    f = Q / ϵ0

    Where f is the total electric flux, Q is the charge enclosed by the surface and ∈0 is the permittivity of the free space.

    It is given that the charge of +Q is placed at the centre of the box. The Gauss's law provides the information about the distribution of the electric charges for the closed surface. In the closed surface, the electric flux is directly proportional to the electric charges enclosed in the surface.

    The cubical surface encloses the charge +Q. Since the cube is the closed surface with the six faces, the gauss law can be applied to find the electric flux of it.

    By using the formula of the Gaussian law,

    f = Q/ϵ0

    Since the cube contains the six faces, the permittivity of the free space is multiplied by six

    to find the flux from each face.

    f = Q/6∈0

    So, the electric flux that is coming out of each flux is obtained as Q/6∈0

    Hence, the correct option is (B).

  • Question 3
    4 / -1

    The conversion of atomic hydrogen into ordinary hydrogen is:

    Solution

    The conversion of atomic hydrogen into ordinary hydrogen is an exothermic reaction. Since atomic hydrogen is highly unstable, it readily combines with another hydrogen atom to form a stable hydrogen molecule.

    2H (atomic) →H2 (g)

    It is an exothermic reaction since the heat is released during bond formation. Oxyhydrogen is a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen gases.

    Hence, the correct option is (D).

  • Question 4
    4 / -1

    The values of the currents i1 and i2 flowing through the resistors R1(= 10Ω) and R2( = 30Ω) respectively, in the circuit diagram with E1=3V,E2 =3V and E3=2V, are:

    Solution

  • Question 5
    4 / -1

    In a Rutherford scattering experiment, when a projectile of charge z1 and mass M1 approaches a target nucleus of charge z2 and mass M2, the distance of the closest approach is r0. The energy of the projectile is:

    Solution

    According to Rutherford scattering experiment, the energy of the projectile is equal to the potential energy at the closest approach.

    KE = 1/4πε0    z1z2 / r0

    Therefore, energy ∝ z1z2.

    Hence, the correct option is (A).

  • Question 6
    4 / -1

    The colour of KMnO4 is due to:

    Solution

    In MnO4, Mn has +7 oxidation state having no electron in d- orbitals.

    It is considered that the higher the oxidation state of the metal, the greater is the tendency to occur L → M charge transfer because ligand is able to donate the electrons into the vacant d- orbital of metal. Since charge transfer is Laporte as well as spin allowed, therefore, it shows color.

    Hence, the correct option is (C).

  • Question 7
    4 / -1

    In a genetic code, some codons do not code for amino acids that function as stop codons. Which of the following does not belong to this group?

    Solution

    The genetic code is a set of three-letter combinations of nucleotides called codons, each of which corresponds to a specific amino acid or stop signal. They showed that the RNA sequence UUU specifically coded for the amino acid phenylalanine.

    Hence, the correct option is (C).

  • Question 8
