Self-pollination is transfer of pollen from anther to stigma of the same flower of the same plant.There are two types of self-pollination:In autogamy, pollen is transferred from the anther to the stigma of the same flower.In geitonogamy, pollen is transferred from the anther of one flower to the stigma of another flower on the same flowering plant or within a single monoecious Gymnosperm.

Entomophily is performed by insects.Entomophilous species include the sunflower, orchids and cycads.

Soft basal branch of a stem branch is used in layering.Layering is a means of plant propagation in which a portion of an aerial stem grows roots while still attached to the parent plant and then detaches as an independent plant.

The part of a plant which is grafted on the stump of another plant is called scion.It is a basically a detached shoot or twig containing buds from a woody plant which is grafted onto the stock.

Double fertilisation means the fusion of one male gamete with the egg and other with the antipodal cell. It begins when a pollen grain adheres to the stigma of the carpel, the female reproductive structure of a flower. The pollen grain then takes in moisture and begins to germinate, forming a pollen tube that extends down toward the ovary through the style. The tip of the pollen tube then enters the ovary and penetrates through the micropyle opening in the ovule. The pollen tube proceeds to release the two sperm in the megagametophyte.

In high plants, usually the haploid (half) set of chromosomes are present in pollen.

Mercurialis shows cross pollination.Cross-pollination, also called allogamy, occurs only when pollen is delivered to a flower from a different plant. Plants adapted to outcross or cross-pollinate often have taller stamens than carpels or use other mechanisms to better ensure the spread of pollen to other plants' flowers.

Pollination between the anther and stigma of same flowers of same species is called autogamy.

The pollination occurring in closed flowers is called cleistogamy. Especially well known in peanuts, peas, and beans, this behavior is most widespread in the grass family. However, the largest genus of cleistogamous plants is actually Viola.

The seeds in a mature ovary are developed from endosperm.
