  • Question 3
    1 / -0

    Four men can dig a pit in 15 days. A man is 1.5 times more efficient than a boy. What will be the number of days taken by 8 men and 6 boys to complete the same work?

    Solution

    Work done by boy = b
    Work done by man = m
    According to question,
    m = 1.5 b
    Let, 8 men and 6 boys take x days to complete the work.
    Work equivalence method,
    4 m × 15 days/1 pit = (8 m + 6 b) × x days/1 pit
    4(1.5 b) × 15 days = (8 (1.5 b) + 6 b) × x days
    4 × 1.5 × 15 b = (12 b + 6 b) × x
    90 b = 18 b × x
    x = 5
    Therefore, 8 men and 6 boys the work will do in 5 days.

  • Question 8
    1 / -0

    A man buys some candies. If he sells them at Rs. 200, he will make a profit of Rs. 25. At what price should he sell them to make a profit of Rs. 50?

    Solution

    1st case:
    S.P. = Rs. 200
    Profit = Rs. 25
    ∴ C.P. = S.P. - Profit
    = 200 - 25 = Rs. 175

    2nd case:
    C.P. = Rs. 175
    Profit = Rs. 50
    ∴ He should sell the candies at the price of 175 + 50 = Rs. 225

  • Question 9

    Rajan sold a cycle at a loss of Rs. 400. If he had sold it at Rs. 4800, he would have made a profit of Rs. 800. At what price did he sell the cycle?

    Solution

    1st case:
    Loss = Rs. 400

    2nd case:
    If S.P. = Rs. 4800
    Profit = Rs. 800
    ∴ C.P. = S.P. - Profit
    C.P. = 4800 - 800 = Rs. 4000
    ∴ S.P. = C.P. - Loss = (4000 - 400) = Rs. 3600

  • Question 13
    1 / -0

    Upon selling an article for Rs. 240, a trader incurs a loss of 4%. At what amount must he sell the article to make a profit of 10%?

    Solution

    SP = Rs. 240
    Loss = 4%
    SP = CP - 4% of CP
    0.96CP = Rs. 240
    CP = Rs. 250
    To make profit of 10%
    New SP = CP + 10% of CP
    New SP = Rs. (250 × 110)/100 = Rs. 250 × 1.1 = Rs. 275

    A man purchased a packet of 10 pens and got 2 pens free with it. He marked the price 20% more than the C.P. If he did not allow any discount and sold all the 12 pens at this price, what was his profit percentage?

    Solution

    Let the cost price of the packet of pens be Rs. 100.
