  • Question 1
    1 / -0

Change the following sentence so that the verbs will be in Passive Voice:

    Shut the door.

    Solution

When the sentence is in active voice and is an Imperative Sentence, “Let be” is used in the passive form of the sentence , if the sentence has to be remain in imperative , otherwise “should be” can be used. An imperative sentence in the passive voice has the following form: “Let + object + be + past participle.”

Like if we say – “Open the window” then the passive voice would be “let the window be opened” or “The window should be opened”.

Or let’s take an another example “Carry it home” so the passive voice will be “Let it be carried home”

  • Question 2
    1 / -0

Change the following sentence so that the verbs will be in Passive Voice:

    They will have taught him.

    Solution

Since the sentence is in future Perfect tense so past participle form will be used in passive voice – “Will/shal+l have been + past participle”

Example- “I shall have learnt the lesson” so following the above rule the passive voice of the sentence would be “The lesson will have been learnt by me”.

  • Question 3
    1 / -0

Change the following sentence so that the verbs will be in Passive Voice:

    He handed her a cheque.

    Solution

Since the sentence is in simple past “was/were + past particle “ will be used. When both the verbs that take both a direct and indirect object in the active voice are changed to the passive , either object may become the subject of the passive verb , while the other is retained.

So, both “A check was handed to her” and “ She was handed a cheque” are correct

  • Question 4
    1 / -0

Change the following sentence so that the verbs will be in Passive Voice:

People speak English all over the world.

    Solution

If the active voice is in simple present “is/are/am + past participle” form is always used in Passive voice.

Example- “They teach him” is in active voice and also in simple present tense so following the above rule the passive voice will be “He is taught by them”

  • Question 5
    1 / -0

Change the following sentence so that the verbs will be in Passive Voice:

The boy laughed at the beggar.

    Solution

When the verb in the active voice is a Prepositional Verb , the preposition is not dropped in the passive voice as it is a part of the verb.

And since the sentence in in simple past “was/were + past participle” form is used.

  • Question 6
    1 / -0

Change the following sentence so that the verbs will be in Passive Voice:

    Mary taught Ravi French.

    Solution

Since the verb “taught” is in simple past tense in active voice so a “was + past participle “ form will be used

If a transitive voice has two objects, any of the two objects may become the subject in the passive voice

  • Question 7
    1 / -0

Change the following sentence so that the verbs will be in Passive Voice:

    Ramesh can do the work.

    Solution
    • the object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence (here: the work)
    • the finite form of the verb is changed (to be+ past participle) (Here: can do will get converted to can be done)
    • the subject of the active sentence becomes the object of the passive sentence (or is dropped) (here: Ramesh)

So the correct sentence would be “The work can be done by Ramesh”.

  • Question 8
    1 / -0

Change the following sentence so that the verbs will be in Passive Voice:

    Give the command

    Solution

To change Imperative Sentence from Active to passive voice “Let be “ is used if the sentence remain imperative ; otherwise “should be “ is used.

So, both “Let the command be given” and “the command should be given” are the correct answer.

  • Question 9
    1 / -0

Change the following sentence so that the verbs will be in Passive Voice:

Varun hoped to succeed his father.

    Solution

Active voice means that a sentence has a subject that acts upon its verb. Passive voice means that a subject is a recipient of a verb's action i.e. the subject is no longer performing the action of the verb. Rather, it's being acted upon by the verb. Therefore, in the sentence where subject is the doer of action i.e. Varun hoped will be converted to 'It is hoped by Varun'. Hence, the sentence becomes 'It is hoped by Varun that he will succeed his father'.

  • Question 10
    1 / -0

Change the following sentence so that the verbs will be in Passive Voice:

The farmers are ploughing the field.

    Solution

The active voice describes a sentence where the subject performs the action stated by the verb. It follows a clear subject + verb + object construct.

In the passive voice, however, the subject is no longer performing the action of the verb. Rather, it's being acted upon by the verb. Put another way, the subject of a sentence in the passive voice is no longer the "doer" of the action, but the recipient of the action.

Since the verb is in present continuous tense “is being + past perfect” form of that verb are used to express the sentence in passive voice.
