The Physical layer
changes bits into electromagnetic signal.
Physical layer is the
only layer of OSI network model which actually deals with the physical
connectivity of two different stations. This layer defines the hardware
equipment, cabling, wiring, frequencies, pulses used to represent binary
signals etc. Physical layer provides its services to Data-link layer.
Located at the lowest
layer of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) communications model, the
physical layer's function is to transport data using electrical, mechanical or
procedural interfaces.
The physical layer is the
first layer of the Open System Interconnection Model (OSI Model). The physical
layer deals with bit-level transmission between different devices and supports
electrical or mechanical interfaces connecting to the physical medium for
synchronized communication.
The following are the OSI
protocols used in the seven layers of the OSI Model: Layer 1, the Physical
Layer: This layer deals with the hardware of networks such as cabling. The
major protocols used by this layer include Bluetooth, PON, OTN, DSL,
IEEE.802.11, IEEE.802.3, L431 and TIA 449.
