A muscular wall is absent in
    Solution
In Vein, venule and arteriole the tunica media consists of smooth muscle tissue. The capillary is made of a single layer of squamous epithelium also called the endothelium, hence, it does not contain a muscular wall.
So, the correct answer is 'Capillary'

  • Question 3

    The pulmonary vein opens into
    Solution
The pulmonary veins carry the oxygenated blood from the lungs and drain into the left atrium of the heart. There are four pulmonary veins, two from each lung.
So, the correct answer is option C.
  • Question 4

    An erythrocyte lives for approximately
    Solution
Average life span of an RBC is 120 days. About 1% of RBCs are destroyed and replaced every day. There are around 4.5 - 5 million RBCs per cubic millimeter of blood.
Hence the correct option is C.
  • Question 5

Read the following differences between lymph and blood.

    LymphBlood
(i)It consists of plasma and leucocytes only.It consists of plasma, leucocytes, erythrocytes and platelets only.
(ii)The concentration of glucose is higher in lymph. The concentration of glucose is less in blood.
(iii)Amount of metabolic wastes is normal.Amount of metabolic wastes is much more.
(iv)Its plasma has fewer proteins, calcium and phosphorus. Its plasma has more proteins, calcium and phosphorus.

Which of these differences is/are incorrect?
    Solution
    • The lymph is formed when the interstitial fluid is collected through lymph capillaries. It contains a variety of substances, including proteins, salts, glucose, fats, water, and white blood cells.
    • Unlike blood, Lymph does not contain RBCs and platelets.
    • The composition of lymph varies a great deal, depending on where in your body it originated. In the lymphatic vessels of your arms and legs, lymph is clear and transparent, and its chemical composition is similar to blood plasma (the liquid portion of blood).
    • However, lymph contains less protein, glucose, and metabolic waste than plasma.
    • The blood is composed of RBC, WBC, and platelets scattered in plasma.
Hence, the correct answer is option B.
  • Question 6

Which among the following is the largest vein in human body?
    Solution
The venae cavae are large veins (venous trunks) that return deoxygenated blood from the body into the heart. In humans, they are called the superior vena cava and the inferior vena cava, and both empty into the right atrium.  The superior vena cava is the largest vein which returns blood to the heart from the head, neck and both upper limbs.
The inferior vena cava returns blood to the heart from the lower part of the body.

So the correct option is C
  • Question 7

Which type of tissue forms the inner lining of a blood vessel?
    Solution
The covering or protective tissues in the animal body are epithelial tissues. They cover most organs within the body. The lining of blood vessels is made of epithelial tissue.
  • Question 8

Clotting of blood is brought about by
    Solution
Platelets are tiny components in blood that initiate blood clots by releasing thromboplastin at the site of injury. Thromboplastin initiates the process of blood clotting. Thus, the correct answer is option C.
  • Question 9
    1 / -0
In human, the prothrombin required for blood clotting is produced in
    Solution
Prothrombin is a plasma glycoprotein produced in the liver. It gets converted into thrombin by a clotting factor prothrombinase which further transforms fibrinogen into fibrin which combines with platelets to form clot.
  • Question 10

Abnormal increase in RBC count is called as
    Solution
Anemia or anaemia is usually defined as a decrease in a number of red blood cells (RBCs) or hemoglobin in the blood. Polycythemia is a condition that results in an increased level of circulating red blood cells in the bloodstream. Pneumonia is a lung infection causing cough, fever and breathing problems. Leukemia is a group of cancers that usually begin in the bone marrow and result in high numbers of abnormal white blood cells. Therefore, the correct answer is option D.
