Each class interval has two limits viz lower class limit and upper class limit. When developing a frequency distribution one usually looks at the type of variable discrete or continuous. when lower class limit is included but upper limit is excluded it is an exclusive class interval which is concerned with continuous variable.

The lower limit for every class is the smallest value in that class. On the other hand, the upper limit for every class is the greatest value in that class. The class midpoint is the lower class limit plus the upper class limit divided by 2.

Individual series are those series in which items are listened singely, discrete series are those series in which data are presented in manner that exact measurement of items are clearly shown.

When data are observed over a period of time the type of classification is known as chronological classification

A continuous variable is a variable that has an infinite number of possible values. In other words, any value is possible for the variable. A continuous variable is the opposite of a discrete variable, which can only take on a certain number of values.

When the lower limit is included, but the upper limit is excluded, then it is an exclusive class interval.

If, in a frequency distribution, the initial class interval is indeterminate at its beginning and/or the final class interval is indeterminate at its end, the distribution is said to possess “open ended” classes.

This is an exclusive class interval. When the lower limit is included, but the upper limit is excluded, then it is an exclusive class interval.
