Weekly Quiz Competition
  • Question 1
    1 / -0
Choose the correct answers from the alternatives given.
Which of the following is mismatched?
    Solution

The ectoderm, which is made up of columnar cells, forms the epidermis of the skin, nervous system, cornea, lens, retina, salivary glands and the enamel of teeth. The mesoderm gives rise to the dermis of skin, gonads, heart, blood and lymph, bones, kidney, reproductive ducts and most of the muscles. The last layer, the endoderm gives rise to the gastric and intestinal glands, liver, pancreas, a lining of the middle ear.
So, the correct option is ' Lens-endoderm '.

  • Question 2
    1 / -0
Choose the correct answers from the alternatives given.
Place the following in the correct order concerning the passage of sperm from the testes to the outside of the body
    1. ductus (vas) deferens,  2. rete testes,  3. seminiferous tubules,  4. Epididymis,  5. Urethra, 6. straight tubules
    Solution
The seminiferous tubules of the testis open into the vasa efferentia through rete testis. The testicular straight tubules connect the seminiferous tubules with the rete testis. The vasa efferentia leaves the testis and open into the epididymis. The epididymis leads to vas deferens which receives the secretions from seminal vesicles, the prostate and bulbourethral gland, as it opens into the urethra.
So the correct option is '3,6,2,4,1,5'.
  • Question 3
    1 / -0
Androgens influence male libido by acting on
    Solution
The major androgen in the male is testosterone. They function in libido as well as in sexual arousal. Libido is a term used to describe the overall sexual desire in a person. Androgens play a key role in spermatogenesis. Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) cause the Sertoli cell of testes to begin the process of spermatogenesis. Testosterone is important in developing the secondary sex characters in a male.
So the correct answer is 'testes'.
  • Question 4
    1 / -0
    What do A, B, C, and D represent?

    Solution
    Correct option: B

    Explanation:
    • A- Infundibulum; The infundibulum channels the released eggs; it is the wide distal (outermost) portion of each fallopian tube.
    • B- Ovum; Ovum or Oocyte is the female reproductive cell released from the ovary.
    • C- Endometrium; The endometrium is the inner epithelial layer which thickens to support pregnancy. But in absence of fertilization, it sheds off during menstruation.
    • D- Morula; A Morula is a solid mass ball of 8-16 cells.
      Thus, Option B is correct.

  • Question 5
    1 / -0
Below is given the unorganised list of some important events in the human female reproductive cycle. Identify the correct sequence of these event and select the correct option.
    (i) Secretion of FSH
    (ii) Growth of corpus luteum
(iii) Growth of the follicle and oogenesis
    (iv) Ovulation
    (v) Sudden increase in levels of LH
    Solution
During the follicular phase, the secretion of FSH happens and this leads to the development of a mature follicle (Graafian follicle). This process of formation of a mature female gamete is called oogenesis. The FSH level increase causes the development of follicles and secretion of estrogen by the growing follicles. Rapid secretion of LH leads to the rupture of Graafian follicle and release of ovum called ovulation. This phase is followed by the remaining parts of Graafian follicle transform into the corpus luteum.
So, the correct option is '(i)
     (iii)  (v)  (iv)  (ii)'.
  • Question 6
    1 / -0
Though the total number of follicles in the ovaries of a normal young woman is about 4,00,00. The duration between menarche and menopause is limited. This is attributed to the
    Solution
Follicular atresia is the breakdown of the ovarian follicles, which consist of an oocyte surrounded by granulosa cells and internal and external theca cells. This is the reason, the female born with more than 4,00,000 eggs have a limited period between menarche and menopause.
So, the correct option is 'Follicular atresia'
  • Question 7
    1 / -0
    During Cleavage there is decrease
    Solution
Cleavage is the repeated mitotic division of cells in the zygote. There is no growth during this stage and due to repeated divisions, there is a decrease in the size of the blastomeres.
So, the correct answer is 'Size of blastomeres'.
  • Question 8
    1 / -0
The principal tail piece of human sperm shows the microtubular arrangement of __________.
    Solution
The axial filament in the tail of human sperm has 9 + 2 microtubular arrangement like that of flagella and cilia.
  • Question 9

Identify the correct match of column $$I, II$$ and $$III$$.

    Column - $$I$$

    Column -$$II$$

    Column - $$III$$

    sertoli cells

    a

    LH

    i

    spermatogenesis

    leydig's cells

    b

    inhibin

    ii

    anterior pituitary

    c

    testosterone

    iii

    suppress FSH

    ovary

    d

    estrogen

    iv

    ovulation

    Solution
    • Inhibin is a dimeric glycoprotein that suppresses follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) secretion from the pituitary. Inhibin B is produced in the testis, principally by the Sertoli cells.
    • Leydig cells, also known as interstitial cells of Leydig, are found adjacent to the seminiferous tubules in the testicle. They produce testosterone in the presence of luteinizing hormone (LH).  The testosterone secreted by Leydig cells under the stimulus of luteinizing hormone (LH), diffuses into seminiferous tubules and drives spermatogenesis together with another gonadotropic hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH).
    • The six anterior pituitary hormones are growth hormone (GH), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), and prolactin (PRL). As with the male, the anterior pituitary hormones cause the release of the hormones FSH and LH. Follicle cells produce the hormone inhibin, which inhibits FSH production. LH also plays a role in the development of ova, induction of ovulation, and stimulation of estradiol and progesterone production by the ovaries.
    • The ovaries maintain the health of the female reproductive system. They secrete two main hormones—estrogen and progesterone.

So, the correct answer is 'A=b−iii,B=c−I,C=a=iv,D=d−ii'
  • Question 10
    1 / -0
Epididymis and ejaculatory duct is connected by
    Solution
Vas deferens is a fibromuscular tube that is continuous with epididymis. Sperms are stored in the proximal portion of Vas deferens, near epididymis. While epididymis is an organ where storage and maturation of sperm occurs. Then the sperms are propelled by peristalsis through the tubes and become motile. So upon ejaculation, the epididymis contracts and expels sperm into vas deferens.
So, the correct answer is 'Vas deferens'.
