Which one is used in treatment of ascariasis?
    Solution
Wormseed is a small, perennial tropical herb with a grooved, branched, reddish stem and a strong, disagreeable scent, growing up to four feet tall. It is native to Central, South America, and the Caribbean, but is now extensively cultivated in China and in the United States. The summer blooms produce small black seeds, and by autumn these seeds contain a toxic essential oil. The most common use of wormseed is for parasitic infections. The active ingredient in wormseed is ascaridole, which is a volatile oil. Chenopodium oil is consumed as an oral antiparasitic against roundworms and hookworms

So, the correct answer is 'Chenopodium oil'.

    The vector of Wuchereria is
    Solution
Different species of the following genera of mosquitoes are vectors of W. bancrofti filariasis depending on geographical distribution. Among them are Culex.

During a blood meal, an infected mosquito introduces third-stage filarial larvae onto the skin of the human host, where they penetrate into the bite wound. They develop in adults that commonly reside in the lymphatics. The female worms measure 80 to 100 mm in length and 0.24 to 0.30 mm in diameter, while the males measure about 40 mm by .1 mm. Adults produce microfilariae measuring 244 to 296 μm by 7.5 to 10 μm, which are sheathed and have nocturnal periodicity, except the South Pacific microfilariae which have the absence of marked periodicity. The microfilariae migrate into lymph and blood channels moving actively through lymph and blood. A mosquito ingests the microfilariae during a blood meal. After ingestion, the microfilariae lose their sheaths and some of them work their way through the wall of the proventriculus and cardiac portion of the mosquito’s midgut and reach the thoracic muscles. There the microfilariae develop into first-stage larvae and subsequently into third-stage infective larvae. The third-stage infective larvae migrate through the hemocoel to the mosquito’s proboscis and can infect another human when the mosquito takes a blood meal.

So, the correct answer is 'Culex'.

Filariasis is also called elephantiasis as.
    Solution
Lymphatic filariasis, also known as elephantiasis, is a human disease caused by parasitic worms known as filarial worms. Most cases of the disease have no symptoms. Some people, however, develop a syndrome called elephantiasis, which is marked by severe swelling in the arms, legs, breasts, or genitals.

So, the correct answer is 'Body parts swell'.

  • Question 4

Matching pair of vector and disease is
    Solution
    • Filariasis is a parasitic disease caused by an infection with roundworms of the Filarioidea type. Elephantiasis is a type of Lymphatic filariasis, is a human disease filarial worms.
    • Culex mosquito serves as vector for the filarial diseases i.e filariasis and Elephantiasis(lymph filariasis).
    • Hence Matching pair of vector and disease is Culex-Filariasis/Elephantiasis.
    • So, the correct answer is 'Culex-Filariasis/Elephantiasis'.
  • Question 5

    Filaria is spread by
    Solution
    • Filaria a threadlike parasitic nematode worm that is transmitted by biting mosquitoes, causing filariasis and related diseases.
    • Filaria spreads from person to person by mosquito bites. When a mosquito bites a person who has lymphatic filariasis, microscopic worms circulating in the person's blood enter and infect the mosquito. When the infected mosquito bites another person, the microscopic worms pass from the mosquito through the skin and travel to the lymph vessels of Humans.
    • Hence Filaria is spread by Mosquito.
    • So, the correct answer is 'Mosquito'.

Caring of the ill and injured is
    Solution
    • Nursing is the profession or practice of providing care for the sick, infirm(physically or mentally weak) and injured.
    • The 4 aims of nursing are promoting health, prevent illness, restore health, and facilitate coping with death and disability.
    • Hence Caring for ills and injured is Nursing.
    • So, the correct answer is 'Nursing'.

The disease caused by Fasciola is
    Solution
Fascioliasis is the infection of humans and grass grazing animals which is caused by the liver fluke Fasciola hepatica. It is a small parasitic flatworm that lives in the bile ducts and causes a condition known as liver rot. F. hepatica grows in the liver of various animals, especially cattle and sheep. The eggs pass through the bile duct and are excreted in the faeces. If the eggs get into pools of water, they hatch after a few weeks and the larvae must find their way into a small water snail. In two months, they multiply and emerge as free-swimming larvae. These finally attach themselves as cysts to grass or leaves of plants growing in the water. The cysts resist drying when the water recedes and if they are later swallowed with the grass or plants, they hatch in the host’s intestine, migrate across the abdominal cavity, pierce the liver, and settle in the bile ducts, where they cause obstruction to the flow of bile and inflammation in surrounding liver tissue.

A parasitic disease which is not transmitted through the bite of an insect is?
    Solution
    • Filariasis is a parasitic disease caused by an infection with roundworms of the Filarioidea type. These are spread by blood-feeding Diptera as black flies and mosquitoes.
    • Leishmaniasis is a disease caused by parasites of the Leishmania type. It is spread by the bite of certain types of sandflies.
    • Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes.
    • Ascariasis occurs when a type of roundworm known as Ascaris lumbricoides infects the small intestine.

So, the correct answer is 'Ascariasis'.
  • Question 9
    1 / -0
    Ascaris infection is common in.
    Solution
Ascariasis is an intestinal infection caused by a parasitic roundworm. Kids are more likely than adults to develop gastrointestinal symptoms with an ascariasis infection because their smaller intestines are at greater risk for an intestinal blockage. The greater the number of worms involved, the more severe the symptoms are likely to be.

So, the correct answer is 'Children'.
  • Question 10
    1 / -0
    Filariasis is caused by.
    Solution

    Correct Option: C

    Explanation:

    • Filariasis is a parasitic illness caused by Wuchereria bancrofti.
    • Blood-feeding insect vectors propagate the illness. Filariasis may produce symptoms in the lymphatics, skin, and eyes as a result of frequent and long-term exposure to these vectors.
    • Pathogenesis occurs when a vector bites a human and releases the larva into the skin, where it subsequently travels to the lymph vessels.
    • The larva develops into the adult worm in the lymphatics, where it can live for several years.
    • The mature female worm then discharges a large number of microfilariae into the bloodstream.
    • Microfilariae are found in the deep vascular bed during the day, but move to the peripheral circulation at night. When a mosquito feeds on this blood and attacks a healthy person at night, the cycle is repeated in that person as well.

Hence, Filariasis is caused by Microfilariae.
