Era Of One Party Test-1

The Congress dominated Indian elections during 1952-1962. In the second and third general elections, held in 1957 and 1962 respectively, the Congress maintained the same position in the Lok Sabha by winning three-fourth of the seats.

The groups inside a party are called factions. The coalitional nature of the Congress party tolerated and encouraged various factions. Some of these factions were based on ideological considerations but very often these factions were rooted in personal ambitions and rivalries.

Independent Labour Party (ILP) was an Indian political organisation formed under the leadership of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in August 1936 against the brahmanical and capitalist structures in the society.

Founded in 1929, National Revolutionary Party was later renamed as the Institutional Revolutionary Party(PRI). It represented the legacy of the Mexican revolution. Originally PRI was a mixture of various interests including political and military leaders, labour and peasant organisations and numerous political parties.

The social base of the communist is the workers of the agricultural and industrial sectors, the educated classes, the youth, etc. in India. But not the business class.

Swatantra Party was formed in August 1959 after the Nagpur resolution of Congress which called for land ceiling, take-over of foodgrain trade by the state. The party was led by old Congressmen like C Rajagopalachari, K M Munshi, N G Ranga and Minoo Masani.

The Indian general election of 1951–52, held from 25 October 1951 to 21 February 1952, was the first election to the Lok Sabha since India became independent in August 1947. It was conducted under the provisions of the Indian Constitution, which was adopted on 26 November 1949. Elections to most of the state legislatures took place simultaneously.

The Bharatiya Jana Sangh was an Indian right wing political party that existed from 1951 to 1977. It was founded by Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. Its lineage can be tracked back to RSS and the Hindu Mahasabha before independence.

After independence, Communist Party failed to generate popular support for their position and abandoned the path of violent revolution and decided to participate in general elections. CPI won 16 seats and emerged the largest opposition party.

Socialism is an economic and political system where the ways of making a living are owned by the workers who run them and the people who depend on them.

Communism – It is a theory or system of social organization in which all property is owned by the community and each person contributes and receives according to their ability and needs.

Communalism – It usually refers to a system that integrates communal ownership and federations of highly localized independent communities.

Capitalism - Capitalism is an economic system based on the private ownership of the means of production and their operation for profit.
