Agriculture is an important source of livelihood in most parts of the world.

It involves tough work but it contributes to food security and the health of the nation.

• Black soils are poor in nitrogen, phosphorus and organic matter.
• The soils are generally rich in the montmorillonitic and beidellitic group of clay minerals.
• It is most suitable for the growth of cotton.
• It is also known or cotton soil as a reason.

The plateau has three principal rivers: the Godavari, the Krishna, and the Kaveri.

These rivers flow from the Western Ghats on the western side of the plateau eastward toward the Bay of Bengal, which is the largest bay in the world.

The Deccan is rich in minerals.

Primary mineral ores found in this region are mica and iron ore in the Chhota Nagpur region, and diamonds, gold and other metals in the Golconda region.

The Tapti River (or Tapi) is a river in central India located to the south of the Narmada river which flows westwards before draining into the Arabian Sea.

Mumbai and Ahmedabad the two main centres of the cotton textile industry.

Sandalwood and sal are important trees found in southern plateau.

Main rivers: the Godavari, Krishna, and Kaveri (Cauvery), flow from the Western Ghats eastward to the Bay of Bengal.

The plateau's climate is drier than that on the coasts and is arid in places.

The Deccan's early history is obscure.

Narmada river and Vindhyan range divides the Deccan Plateau into two parts. Upper part is known as central highlands and lower part is known as Deccan plateau.

The Malwa Plateau (of volcanic origin) lies in Madhya Pradesh between Vindhyas & Aravali. It icomprises extensive lava flow & is covered with "black soils".

The Chota Nagpur area has the most valuable concentration of mineral resources in India.
