•  According to the United Nations, world population reached 7 Billion on October 31, 2011.
  
•  The US Census Bureau made a lower estimate, for which the 7 billionmark was only reached on March 12, 2012.
  
•  According to current projections, the global population will reach eight billion by 2024, and will likely reach around nine billion by 2037.
  

• According to the provisional results of the 2011 national census, Maharashtra is the second most populous state in India with a population of 112,374,333 (9.28% of India's population) of which male and female are 58,243,056 and 54,131,277 respectively.
  
• It is India's fourth-most populous state, with over 91 million inhabitants. It has a total area of 34,267 sq mi (88,750 km²).
  
•  According to the 2011 census of India, Uttarakhand has a population of 10,116,752 comprising 5,154,178 males and 4,962,574 females, with 69.45% of the population living in rural areas. The state is the 20th most populous state of the country having 0.84% of the population on 1.69% of the land.
  

The birth rate is higher than the death rate in India. We have been successful in declining the death rates but the same cannot be said for birth rates.

Sex ratio is used to describe the number of females per 1000 of males. Sex ratio is a valuable source for finding the population of women in India  and what is the ratio of women to that of men in India. As per census 2011  the population ratio in India is 940 females per thousand males. The major cause of the decrease of the female birth ratio in India is considered to be the violent treatments meted out to the girl child at the time of the birth. The sex ratio  in India was almost normal during the phase of the years of independence , but thereafter it started showing gradual signs of decrease.

• Population Density of India: Census 2011. The records of population density 2011 of India state that the density 2011 has increased from a figure of 324 to that of 382 per square kilometer. Bihar is the most thickly populated state (1106 persons/sq km.) followed by west bengal-1028 and Kerala 860.
  

Uttar Pradesh. According to 2011 Census, the state with highest population in India is Uttar Pradesh. The highest urban population in India is in the state of Maharashtra.

India ranks number second in the world with respect to population. The current population of India is 1,344,988,187 as of August 30, 2017, based on the latest United Nations estimates. India population is equivalent 17.86% of the total world population. The population density in India is 452 people per kilometer square. The total land area is 2, 972,892 kilometer square . 32.8% of the population is urban and the median age in India is 26.9 years.

• According to the 2011 census, there were 27 million-plus cities in India, with Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai being the largest. 
  
• There are 54 urban agglomerations in India with a population of 1 million or more as of 2011 against 35 in 2001.
