  • Question 1
    4 / -1
    A scientist is trying to find a cure for the Ebola using four ingredients. He can choose from the stable chemicals hydrogen, helium and lithium and the unstable chemicals Neon, Argon, Radium and Chlorine. In order for the formula not to explode, there must be two stable chemicals in it. Also, certain chemicals cannot be mixed because of their reaction together. Helium cannot be mixed with Neon. Lithium cannot be mixed with Radium. Radium cannot be mixed with Chlorine.

    The scientist rejected Helium because of its possible side effects but decided to use Chlorine. Which is a possible combination of the four ingredients in the formula?

    Solution

    Since Helium is rejected Hydrogen and helium are included

    Since Lithium is used radium is excluded

    Thus, we can have : hydrogen,lithium , {Neon,Argon,Chlorine} (any 2)

  • Question 2

    A scientist is trying to find a cure for the Ebola using four ingredients. He can choose from the stable chemicals hydrogen, helium and lithium and the unstable chemicals Neon, Argon, Radium and Chlorine. In order for the formula not to explode, there must be two stable chemicals in it. Also, certain chemicals cannot be mixed because of their reaction together. Helium cannot be mixed with Neon. Lithium cannot be mixed with Radium. Radium cannot be mixed with Chlorine.

    Which of the following combinations of chemicals is impossible?
    I. Using Radium and Neon together.
    II. Using Helium and Lithium together.
    III. Using Neon, Argon and Chlorine together.

    Solution

    In I If Radium and Neon are used, Helium and Lithium can't not used

    thus,only hydrogen from Ist group(not possible)

    In III only two of the given can be used.

  • Question 3
    4 / -1

    Given below is a passage followed by a possible inference which can be drawn from the facts stated in the passage. Read the passage and decide upon the degree of truth or falsity of this inference.
    Mark your answer as:
    A) If the 'data is inadequate', i.e. from the given information you cannot say whether the inference is likely to be true or false.
    B) If the inference is 'definitely true', i.e. properly follows from the given facts.
    C) If the inference is 'probably false', though not 'definitely false' in the light of the given information.
    D) If the inference is 'definitely false', i.e. it cannot be drawn from the facts given or it contradicts the given facts.

    India's economic and social progress is forever undermined by constant onslaught of drought followed by devastating floods. There is no denying that the country has registered growth in putting water to productive uses –– for irrigation to realize the objectives of food security, of water conservation for crops requiring a considerable amount of water or even underground water for industrial and agricultural purposes. Despite this, the demand for water is visibly more than the supply of available and sustainable water. This is because water resources are not integrated in a systematic way to provide for varied uses.

    “The need of the hour is to manage water resources by integrated method.”

    Socrates' mother had been a midwife and that is how he saw himself too. For ideas to be born, a midwife is needed. That was one of the greatest of all discoveries .
    Which of the following is implied by the passage?

    Solution

    The passage talks about India's progress getting weakened as a result of drought, floods and a gap between water supply and demand. However, the data given in the passage does not state that there is an urgency to manage the water resources. Thus, the given data is inadequate to draw the above inference.

  • Question 4
    4 / -1

    Direction: Read the following information carefully and answer the given question.

    There are eight people B, C, M, N, P, V, X, and Z. They all are sitting in a row but not necessarily in the same order. Some of them are facing North and some of them are facing South. People sitting near to each other are facing the opposite direction (It means that if a person is facing the North then the neighbor of this person will face the South direction). Z is sitting one of the corners and third to the right of X, who is facing south direction. V is sitting third to the left of N, who is facing north direction. V is the only neighbor of Z. C is sitting second to the right of B. P is not near to B.

    Who is sitting third to the right of P?

    Solution

    From the given information,

    (I) Z is sitting one of the corner and he is sitting third to the right of X, who is facing south direction, there will be only condition by which we can place both X and Z.

    (II) V is the neighbor of Z and V is sitting third to the left of N who is facing North direction. So according to the given condition N will sit just left of X, because from there only V will be third to left of N.

    (III) C is sitting second to the right of B. So in the row there is only place for B and C because no other place satisfy the condition of B and C. Here B will face South direction because if B is facing North then it will not satisfy the condition of C is second right to B because in this condition B will be near to N who is already facing North. This will contradict the given condition of neighbor facing opposite direction.

    (IV) P is not near to B so P will sit between V and X. Remaining one person M will sit between C and B.

    (V) All the people are placed in the row now we have decide their direction according to the given condition which is People sitting near to each other are facing opposite.

    (VI) Here M will face opposite to B so M will be in North then C will face opposite to M so C will be in South direction.

    (VII) P will face opposite of X so P will be in North direction same as V will opposite to P then V will face South direction and in final Z will face opposite to V so Z will be facing in North direction.

    This is the final arrangement.

    So, C is sitting third to the right of P.

  • Question 5
    4 / -1

    Eight people A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H are sitting around a circular table and all of them are facing towards the centre. E is not the neighbour of A. G is third to the right of A. B is neither the neighbour of G nor A. C neither sits opposite to G nor is the neighbour of G and A. D is the neighbour of F and third to the left of B.

    Who sits opposite to D?

    Solution

    Eight people A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H are sitting around a circular table and all of them are facing towards the centre.

    1) G is third to the right of A.

    2) B is neither the neighbour of G nor A.

    3) C neither sits opposite to G nor is the neighbour of G and A.

    4) D is the neighbour of F and third to the left of B. This eliminates case-2.

    5) E is not the neighbour of A.

    So, the final arrangement is:

    So, C sits opposite to D.

  • Question 6

    DIRECTIONS : Read the following information carefully to answer the question given below it:

    (i) ‘X × Y’ means ‘X is the brother of Y’;

    (ii) ‘X ÷ Y’ means ‘Y is the father of X’;

    (iii) ‘X + Y’ means ‘X is the sister of Y’;

    (iv) ‘X – Y’ means ‘X is the mother of Y’;

    Which of the following means 'A is the paternal uncle of K'?

    Solution
    • ‘K × P ÷ M × A’ means ‘K is the brother of P whose father is M, who is the brother of A’. Thus, K is the child of M, who is the brother of A. So, A may be the paternal uncle or aunt of K.
    • ‘K × B ÷ N × A × D’ means ‘K is the brother of B, whose father is N, who is the brother of A, who in turn is the brother of D’. Thus, N is the father of K, and A is the brother of N. So, A is the paternal uncle of K.
    • ‘A × L ÷ R × K’ means ‘A is the brother of L whose father is R, who is the brother of K’. Thus, R is the father of A and R is the brother of K. So, K may be the paternal uncle or aunt of A.f V.

    Thus, only (2) represents the correct relation.
