  • Question 1
    1 / -0.25

    The number of teeth and the age of a person vary

    Solution

    The number of teeth and the age of a person vary sometimes directly and sometimes inversely with each other, we cannot predict about the number of teeth with exactly the age of a person. It change with person-to-person.

  • Question 2
    1 / -0.25

    There are 2 Red, 3 Blue and 5 Black balls in a bag. A ball is drawn from the bag without looking into the bag. What is the probability of getting a red ball?

    Solution

    Total number of balls = 10

    Probability (of getting the red ball)

    = 2/10 = 1/5

  • Question 3
    1 / -0.25

    12 pipes are required to fill a tank in 2 hours 40 minutes. How long will it take if only 10 pipes of the same type are used?

    Solution

    This is a case of inverse proportion as with a decrease in the number of pipes more time will be taken to fill the tank
    In inverse proportion, the value of constant is given by x × y
    12 × 2 hours 40 mins = 10 × a (where a is the time taken to fill the tank)
    12 × 160 min = 10 × a (2hr 40min = 160min)

    3 hours 12 min = a

  • Question 4
    1 / -0.25

    There are 2 Red, 3 Blue and 5 Black balls in a bag. A ball is drawn from the bag without looking into the bag. What is the probability of getting a black ball?

    Solution

    Total number of balls = 10
    Probability (of getting the black ball) = total no. of black balls/total no. of balls
    = 5/10 = 1/2

  • Question 5
    1 / -0.25

    Numbers 1 to 10 are written on ten separate slips (one number on one slip), kept in a box and mixed well. One slip is chosen from the box without looking into it. What is the probability of getting a number greater than 6?

    Solution

    Total number of favourable outcomes = 4 (7,8,9,10)
    Total number of outcomes = 10
    Probability of getting a number greater than  6 =

    = 4/10 = 2/5

  • Question 6
    1 / -0.25

    The perimeter of one square is 24 m and second square is 32m. Find the perimeter of a square whose area is equal to the sum of these two squares.

    Solution

  • Question 7
    1 / -0.25

    The value of x2 - 5 at x = -1 is

  • Question 8
    1 / -0.25

    When a die is thrown, what is the probability of getting an even number?

    Solution

    Total number of outcomes = 1,2,3,4,5,6 i.e 6

    Even number = 2,4,6 i.e. 3

    Probability of getting an even number = 3/6 = 1/2

  • Question 9
    1 / -0.25

    1L = ________ cm3

    Solution

    1L = 1000cm3
    or we can write, 1 litre = 1000 cubic centimetre

  • Question 10
    1 / -0.25

    What is the surface area of a book 13 cm long, 10 cm wide, and 3 cm high?

    Solution

    length of book = 13 cm, breadth = 10 cm, height = 3 cm
    Surface area of book = 2(l × b + b × h + h × l)
    S = 2(13 × 10 + 10 × 3 + 3 × 13)
    S = 2(1300 + 30 + 39)
    S = 2(199) = 2 × 199 = 398cm2
    surface area of book = 398 cm2
