Given:
Area of triangle BCD is 28% of the area of parallelogram ACDE
Formula used:
Area of parallelogram = Base × Height of parallelogram
Area of trapezium = 1/2 × sum of parallel sides × perpendicular distance between parallel sides
Calculation:
Let the length of the parallel sides AB and DE be ‘a’ units and ‘b’ units respectively and the height of the parallelogram AF be ‘h’ units, as shown below
Let the area of parallelogram ACDE be x sq. units

Area of parallelogram = Base × Height of parallelogram
⇒ Area of parallelogram ACDE = DE × AF = bh sq. units
Area of trapezium = 1/2 × sum of parallel sides × perpendicular distance between parallel sides
⇒ Area of trapezium ABDE = 1/2 × (a + b) × h = (ah + bh)/2 sq. units
Now,
Area of trapezium ABDE = Area of parallelogram ACDE – Area of triangle BCD
According to the question,
Area of triangle BCD = 28% of x
⇒ Area of triangle BCD = 7x/25
⇒ Area of trapezium ABDE = x – 7x/25
⇒ Area of trapezium ABDE = 18x/25
⇒ (ah + bh)/2 = (18/25) × bh
⇒ 25ah + 25bh = 36bh
⇒ 25ah = 11bh
⇒ 25a = 11b
⇒ a/b = 11/25
∴ Ratio of lengths of parallel sides of trapezium ABDE = 11 ∶ 25
