  • Question 1
    4 / -1

Which of the following does not give iodoform test?

    Solution
lodoform test is shown by a compound \(\mathrm{CH}, \mathrm{CO}-\) group or by a compound which produces this group. Methanal \((\mathrm{HCHO})\) does not show iodoform test.
  • Question 2
    4 / -1

What is the number of isomeric primary amines obtained from C4H11N?

    Solution

The following isomeric \(1^{\circ}\) amines can be obtained from \(\mathrm{C}_{4} \mathrm{H}_{11} \mathrm{N}\)

    (i) \(\mathrm{CH}_{3} \mathrm{CH}_{2} \mathrm{CH}_{2} \mathrm{CH}_{2} \mathrm{NH}_{2}\)

  • Question 3

Which of the following is a repeating unit of synthetic rubber?

    Solution

Synthetic rubber can be made from the polymerization of a variety of monomers including isoprene (2-methyl-1,3-butadiene), 1,3-butadiene, chloroprene (2-chloro-1,3-butadiene), and isobutylene (methylpropene) with a small percentage of isoprene for cross-linking.

  • Question 4

    Slag is represented by

    Solution

Slag is a partially vitreous by-product of smelting ore to separate the metal fraction from the unwanted fraction. It can usually be considered as a mixture of metal oxides and silicon dioxide. So, CaSiO3 is known as slag.

  • Question 5
    4 / -1

Which of the following is not a part of the biotic environment?

    Solution

Air is not a part of the biotic environment.

  • Question 6
    4 / -1
    In the reaction \(2 \mathrm{N}_{2} \mathrm{O}_{5} \rightarrow 4 \mathrm{NO}_{2}+\mathrm{O}_{2}\)
    \(\mathrm{NO}_{2}\) is being formed at the rate of \(0.0072 \mathrm{mol} \mathrm{L}^{-1} \mathrm{s}^{-1}\)
If the reaction follows second order kinetics, what is the rate of the reaction when the concentration of \(\mathrm{N}_{2} \mathrm{O}_{5}\)
    is douled?
    Solution
    According to the balanced equation:
Rate of the reaction \(=\frac{1}{4}\) rate of formation of \(\mathrm{NO}_{2}\) Therefore rate of the reaction \(=\frac{1}{4} \times 0.0072 \mathrm{mol} \mathrm{L}^{-1} \mathrm{s}^{-1}\)
since the reaction is of second order, the rate of decomposition becomes 4 times when \(\left[\mathrm{N}_{2} \mathrm{O}_{5}\right]\)
    is doubled. Therefore the rate of reaction is \(=4 \times \frac{1}{4} \times 0.0072=0.0072 \mathrm{molL}^{-1} \mathrm{s}^{-1}\)
  • Question 7
    4 / -1

The rate constants were found to be K1 and K2, when a reaction was carried out at 310 K and 290 K respectively.

The two rate constants are related as:

    Solution

This option is correct because for every 10 degree rise in temprature, rate constant doubles.

    Aince, T1 = T2 + 20

    Hence, K1 = 4 K2

    => K2 = 0.25 K1

    Hence, this option is correct.

  • Question 8
    4 / -1

C-H bond energy is about 101 kcal/mol for methane, ethane and other alkanes, but is only 77 kcal/mol for C-H bond of CH3 in toluene. This is because

    Solution

The C- H bond-dissociation energy is about 101 kcal/mole for methane, ethane, and other alkanes, but is only 77 kcal/mole for toluene, as determined by Szware from its rate of pyrolysis and by Schissler and Stevenson by electron impact. The difference, 24 kcal/mole, can be attributed to the resonance stabilization of the benzyl radical that is produced by removing one hydrogen atom from the methyl group of toluene; this radical resonates among the several structures.

  • Question 9
    4 / -1

The best method to separate the mixture of ortho and para nitrophenol (1 : 1) is

    Solution
Ortho and para nitrophenol is separated by distillation beacuse \(p\) -nitrophenol has higher boiling point than \(o\) -nitrophenol due to H-bonding.
  • Question 10
    4 / -1

Which of the following covalent bonds has the highest ionic character?

    Solution

Among the given options, the difference in electronegativity between the H and O is the highest. So, this bond will have the highest ionic character.
