  • Question 4
    4 / -1

    The percentage errors in the measurement of mass and speed are 2% and 3% respectively. How much will be the maximum error in the estimation of the kinetic energy obtained by measuring mass and speed :-

    Solution

    k = 1/2 mv2
    percentage error in K = % error in m + 2 (% error in v)

    % error in K = 2% + 2 (3%)

    % error in k = 8%

  • Question 5

    If a ball is thrown vertically upwards with speed u, the distance covered during the last ‘t’ seconds of its ascent is :–

    Solution

    distance covered in t seconds of ascent will be equal to distance covered in t seconds of descent

    so  x = ut + 1/2 at2

    u = 0

     x = 1/2 gt2

  • Question 9
    4 / -1

    A monkey of 10 kg climbing on a massless rope whose breaking strength is 500 N. Find the maximum acceleration with which monkey can climb on rope :-

    Solution

    T = m(g + a)

    500 = 10 (10 + a)

    10a = 400

    a = 40 m/s2

  • Question 10
    4 / -1

    A 60 kg man stands on a spring scale in the lift. At some instant he finds, scale reading has changed from 60 kg to 50 kg for a while and then comes back to the original mark. What should we conclude :-

    Solution

    For upward motion, R = m (g + a)

    Here a = acceleration in upward direction

    Initially a = 0

    If the lift stops suddenly, the retardation comes into play.

    Hence a will be negative i.e. R = m (g – a)

    It means that reading of spring scale will be reduced and again a = 0, v = 0, R = mg
