Mountains can have a significant effect on rainfall. When air reaches the mountains, it is forced to rise over this barrier. As the air moves up the windward side of a mountain, it cools, and the volume decreases. As a result, humidity increases and orographic clouds and precipitation can develop.

The kangaroo rats can obtain water metabolically from the seeds they eat.

The coastal areas experience less variation in temperature as compared to land. The reason is that the heating or cooling capacity of water is much less as compared to land. It means that water takes more time to get hot or cold than land. Therefore areas near sea or ocean have more moderate temperature in the day time and less cooler at night.

Like other animals, birds too need to keep warm in winters. So, they migrate to warmer regions, and come back when winter is over.

If the amount of rainfall at a place is high, the climate of that place will be wet. This is the reason why the climate of northeast India is wet.

The day to day conditions of atmosphere at a place with respect to temperature, humidity, rainfall, wind speed, etc. are called weather. The weather of a place keeps changing day after day and week after week, whereas climate, soil texture and vegetation are the factors particular of a place and do not change on a daily or weekly basis.
