The 1929 Lahore Session under the presidency of Jawaharlal Nehru holds a special significance. In this session, Poorna Swaraj (complete independence) was declared to be the goal of the INC. January 26, 1930 was declared as "Poorna Swaraj Diwas".

The first Satyagrahi selected was Acharya Vinoba Bhave, who was sent to jail when he spoke against the war. The second Satyagrahi was Jawahar Lal Nehru. The Individual Satyagraha was not to seek independence but to affirm the right of speech. Individual Satyagarh was the outcome of August Offer.

On 8^th August, 1942 at the All-India Congress Committee session in Bombay, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi launched the 'Quit India' movement. Gandhi made a call to Do or Die in his Quit India speech delivered in Bombay at the Gowalia Tank Maidan. The All-India Congress Committee launched a mass protest demanding what Gandhi called "An Orderly British Withdrawal" from India.

Swaraj Party, Indian political party established in late 1922–early 1923 by members of the Indian National Congress (Congress Party), notably Motilal Nehru, one of the most prominent lawyers in northern India (and the father of political leader Jawaharlal Nehru), and Chitta Ranjan Das, a nationalist politician from Bengal. The party's name is taken from the term swaraj, meaning self-rule, which was broadly applied to the movement to gain independence from British rule.

The Communist Party of India has officially stated that it was formed on 25 December 1925 at the first Kanpur Party Conference.

After the publication of Gandhi Vs. Lenin, Dange and his friends engaged themselves in trade union activities and evolved into one of the earliest communist circles in India and began publishing the Socialist, the first communist journal in India, from August 1922.

The English officer who led the fatal lathi (baton) charge on Lala Lajpat Rai during the freedom struggle was James A. Scott.
In 1928, the British government set up the Commission, headed by Sir John Simon, to report on the political situation in India. The Indian political parties boycotted the Commission, because it did not include a single Indian in its membership, and it met with country-wide protests. When the Commission visited Lahore on 30 October 1928, Lajpat Rai led non-violent march in protest against it. The protest was with the words "Simon go back" and black flags. The superintendent of police, James A. Scott, ordered the police to lathi (baton) charge the protesters and personally assaulted Rai. Despite being extremely injured, Rai subsequently addressed the crowd and said, "I declare that the blows struck at me today will be the last nails in the coffin of British rule in India".

The Indian National Association also known as Indian Association was the first avowed nationalist organization founded in British India by Surendranath Banerjee and Ananda Mohan Bose in 1876.
