  • Question 1
    4 / -1

    What should come in place of the question mark (?) in the following number series?

    5, 10, 18, 29, 43, ?

    Solution

    The pattern is 5 + 5 = 10, 10 + 8 = 18, 18 + 11 = 29, 29 + 14 = 43, 43 + 17 = 60

  • Question 2
    4 / -1

    The following pie chart gives the percentage distribution for the favorite color of the people of a colony. Total number of people living in the colony is less than 500 but more than 300.

    Find the difference between the angle made by people favoring white and blue.

    Solution

    The difference in percentage of people favoring white and blue = 35 - 19 = 16%.

    So the answer is 16/100th portion of 360 which is 16 x 360/100 = 57.6 degree.

  • Question 3
    4 / -1

    The following pie chart gives the percentage distribution for the favorite color of the people of a colony. Total number of people living in the colony is less than 500 but more than 300.

    How many people favor green color?

    Solution

    Since the HCF of all the percentages is 1 so the number must be a multiple of 100. And hence the only total population could be 400.

    So the number of people favoring green must be 4 x 18 = 72.

  • Question 4
    4 / -1

    The following pie chart gives the percentage distribution for the favorite color of the people of a colony. Total number of people living in the colony is less than 500 but more than 300.

    If the angle made by people favoring red is 10% more than the angle shown in the pie chart whereas that for people favoring white, green and yellow is same as given the find the angle made by people favoring blue.

    Solution

    The percentage in red is 10%

    So after 10% increase the percentage will be 11%.

    So it means for blue the angle made is 18%.

    Which is 18 x 360/100 = 64.8 degree.

  • Question 5
    4 / -1

    The following pie chart gives the percentage distribution for the favorite color of the people of a colony. Total number of people living in the colony is less than 500 but more than 300.

    If there are 400 people and 20% of the people favoring white are of less than 18 years old then how many people are of the age less than 18 years?

    Solution

    Since we can only calculate the people of less than 18 years for white color, we cannot answer the question as a whole.

  • Question 6
    4 / -1

    If 8 years are subtracted from the present age of Anupama and the remainder is divided by 16, the present age of her younger daughter Mithi can be obtained. If Mithi is 4 years younger to Rahul whose age is 6years,then what is Anupama's present age?

    Solution

    Mithi's age = (6 - 4)years = 2 years

    Let Anupama's age be X

    Then, (X - 8)/16 = 2

    => X = 32 + 8 = 40

  • Question 7
    4 / -1

    A coin is tossed 4 times. What is the probability of getting at least three heads?

    Solution

    Total number of possible outcomes = 24 = 16

    Favourable cases: 3 or more heads = {HHHT, HHTH, HTHH, THHH, HHHH} = 5

    Hence required probability = 5/16

  • Question 8
    4 / -1

    The value of a coin varies directly as the square of its diameter, thickness remaining constant. The value also varies directly as the thickness, the diameter remaining constant. Two coins have their diameters in the ratio 4:3. If their values are in the ratio 4:1 find the ratio of their thickness'.?

    Solution

    Let V = kTD2 where V = value, T = thickness, D = diameter, k = constant

    We have, V= kT1D12 and V= kT2D22 (V1/V2) = (T1/T2)(D1/D2)2

    Substituting V1/V= 4/1, D1/D= 4/3, we get, 4 = (T1/T2)(16/9). (T1/T2) = 9/4

    ratio of thickness is 9:4.

  • Question 9
    4 / -1

    A, B and C started a joint venture by investing Rs 80000, Rs 50000 and Rs 60000 for 6 months, 4 months and 12 months respectively. B besides being a partner also manages the business and other promotional activities and for that he gets 1/6th of the total profit obtained. If at the end of the year A got a total profit which was 12000 less than the profit obtained by C then what is the total profit that B obtained at the end of the year?

    Solution

    Total amount invested by A = Rs (80000 X 6) = Rs 480000

    Total amount invested by B = Rs (50000 X 4) = Rs 200000

    Total amount invested by C = Rs (60000 X 12) = Rs 720000

    Therefore, ratio in which amount will be divided between A, B and C = 480000: 200000: 720000 = 48: 20: 72

    =12: 5: 18

    Let's total profit obtained at the end of the year = Rs 6a

    Amount of profit B will get for promotional activities = Rs a

    Now amount of profit which will be divided A, B and C = Rs (6a - a) = Rs 5a

    Now this Rs 5a will be divided amongst A, B and C will be divided in the ratio 12: 5: 18.

    Total profit that A will get at the end of the year= Rs (5a X 12/35)

    Total profit that C will get at the end of the year= Rs (5a X 18/35)

    According to the question; Rs (5a X 18/35 - 5a X 12/35) = 12000

    => 30a = (12000 X 35)

    => a = 14000

    Therefore, total profit that B obtained at the end of the year = Rs (5a X 5/35) + Rs a = Rs 12a/7 = Rs (12 X 14000)/7 = Rs 24000

  • Question 10
    4 / -1

    Directions: In each of the following questions, two equations numbered I and II with variables x and y are given. You have to solve both the equations to find the value of x and y and give answer

    I. y2 – 2y - 35 = 0

    II. x2 + 15x + 50 = 0

    Solution

    From I,

    y2 – 7y + 5y - 35 = 0

    y(y - 7) + 5(y - 7) = 0

    y = 7 or -5

    From II,

    x2 + 5x + 10x + 50 = 0

    x(x + 5) + 10(x + 5) = 0

    x = -5 or -10

    So y ≥ x. Hence, option b.
