GATE CS 2026 : Marking Scheme

Type of question Negative marking for wrong answer Marking for correct answer
MCQs
  • 1/3 for 1 mark questions.
  • 2/3 for 2 marks questions.
1 or 2 marks
MSQs No negative marking  1 or 2 marks
NATs No negative marking  1 or 2 marks

1/3 marks will be deducted for the wrong answers, i.e. (0.33) marks for 1 mark questions, and (0.66) marks will be deducted for questions carrying 2 marks. No mark will be deducted for the wrong answer to NAT questions.

 GATE Computer Science Exam Pattern 2026: Type of Questions: 

  • GATE CS will primarily consist of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions
  • MCQs are objective questions that carry 1 or 2 marks in all sections. Every question will have 4 choices out of which only 1 is the correct answer.
  • NAT questions carry 1 or 2 marks in all sections. The answers to these questions are numerical values that are to be entered using a virtual keypad. No choices are given for these questions.
  • In MSQs, questions will have a choice of four answers. Out of which, one or more than one choice(s) are correct.
