
There have been modifications made to the JEE Main 2027 exam pattern by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and are available on its official website at nta.ac.in. It may be noted that there is an end to optional questions in Section B in both Papers of the exam from the year 2027 onward i.e. Paper 1 (B.E/B.Tech) and Paper 2 (B.Arch/B.Plan).
The JEE Main pattern should be carefully analyzed for information regarding marking scheme, time duration, type of questions and other aspects. The JEE Main 2027 exam for B.E/B.Tech will consist of 75 questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics for 300 marks.
There are 25 mandatory questions in each subject out of which 20 are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) while 5 are Numerical Value Questions (NVQs) in each section without any optional question. JEE Main exams will be held in January and April 2027.
JEE Main 2027 Revised Exam Pattern: Paper 1 & 2 Details
NTA has resumed the old format of JEE Main 2027 before the pandemic era. The candidates are advised to get acquainted with the new format of the exam as follows:
- Section A – 20 MCQs (Multiple-Choice Questions)
- Section B – 5 NVQs (Numerical Value Questions)
In Section B, candidates are supposed to attempt all 5 questions without having any option. Here is the table that contains the details about the format of JEE Main 2027.

JEE Main 2027 Marking Scheme: Paper 1 & 2
The marking scheme for JEE Mains 2027 papers is consistent across subjects:
- MCQs: +4 marks for each correct answer, -1 for each incorrect answer
- Numerical Value Questions (NVQs): +4 marks for each correct answer, -1 for each incorrect answer
- Drawing Test (B.Arch only): Evaluated out of 100 marks, no negative marking
JEE Main has three paper options. Paper 1 is conducted for B.E. and B.Tech admission, Paper 2A is for B.Arch admission, and Paper 2B is for B.Planning admission. Candidates can select the paper according to the course they wish to pursue.
NTA hasn’t announced any changes to the JEE Main 2027 exam pattern yet. Based on the latest pattern, Section B will have five compulsory numerical-value questions in each subject, with no optional questions. The optional-question facility was discontinued from JEE Main 2025, not 2027.
Candidates will get three hours to complete Paper 1, Paper 2A or Paper 2B. Those appearing for both B.Arch and B.Planning papers will get three hours and 30 minutes. Eligible PwD or PwBD candidates will receive compensatory time as per the applicable rules.
Candidates will receive four marks for every correct MCQ or numerical-value answer. One mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer. No marks will be awarded or deducted for unanswered questions. The B.Arch drawing test is evaluated separately out of 100 marks.
Based on the latest pattern, JEE Main 2027 is expected to be conducted in 13 languages: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.
The B.E./B.Tech paper will contain 75 questions for 300 marks. Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry will each have 20 multiple-choice questions and five numerical-value questions. All 25 questions in each subject will be compulsory.
The B.Arch paper will carry 400 marks. Mathematics will have 25 questions for 100 marks, Aptitude will have 50 questions for 200 marks, and the Drawing Test will have two questions for 100 marks. Mathematics and Aptitude questions will follow the +4 and −1 marking scheme.
The B.Planning paper will contain 100 questions for 400 marks. It will include 25 Mathematics questions, 50 Aptitude questions and 25 planning-based questions. Mathematics will carry 100 marks, while Aptitude and Planning will carry 200 and 100 marks, respectively.
