  • Question 1
    4 / -1

    Find the next term in the series.

    6, 15, 35, 77, 143, ?

    Solution

    The pattern is as follows

    6 = 2 × 3

    15 = 3 × 5

    35 = 5 × 7

    77 = 7 × 11

    143 = 11 × 13

    i.e., the product of two consecutive numbers.

    So that, the next term will be:-

    13 × 17 = 221

    Hence, the correct option is (C).

  • Question 2
    4 / -1

    The average age of a five-member family 10 years ago was 25 years. Meanwhile, 2 children were born. At present, the number of members in this family is 7 and the average age of the family is 27 years. It is known that if the older child is 4 years older than the younger child, then what will be the age of the older child?

    Solution

    Given

    Average age 10 years ago of five-member = 25 years

    The present average age of 7 members = 27 years

    Elder child = 4 years + younger child

    We know that,

    Sum of the age of the 5 members 10 years ago = 25 × 5 = 125 years

    The present age of the 5 members = 125 + 5 × 10 = 175 years

    The sum of the present age of 7 members = 7 × 27 = 189 years

    The sum of the age of the two children is = 189 − 175 = 14 years

    Let the age of the younger child be x years.

    According to the question,

    Elder + younger =14

    x + 4 + x = 14

    ⇒ x = 5 years

    Age of elder child = 5 + 4 = 9 years

    ∴ The age of the elder child is 9 years.

    Hence, the correct option is (C).

  • Question 3
    4 / -1

    In ∆ABC, ∠B is a right angle, and D is the midpoint of the side AC. If AB = 6 cm, BC = 8cm, then the length of BD is:

    Solution

    Using Pythagorean theorem: -

    AB2 + BC2 = AC2

    62 + 82 = AC2

    AC = 10

    The midpoint of the hypotenuse is the circumcentre of the triangle which is equidistant from all three vertices.

    Therefore, BD = AC/2 = 5 cm

    Hence, the correct option is (B).

  • Question 4
    4 / -1

    The average of 60 results is 40 and the average of another 40 results is 60. What is the total average?

    Solution

    The total of the first 60 results = 60 × 40 = 2400

    The total of the last 40 results = 40 × 60 = 2400

    The total of 100 results = 4800

    Now average = 4800/100 = 48.

  • Question 5
    4 / -1

    Mahesh asked 32 men to build his house in 20 days. 80% of the work got completed in just 12 days. So Mahesh removed some workers. Now, how many persons does he need to complete the remaining work in the decided time?

    Solution

    Mahesh wants to complete his house in 20 days.

    Let Mahesh remove ′M′ men.

    So he needs '32-M' men to complete the remaining work.

    Take work done = 1

    M1 = 32; D1 = 12; W1 = 80% of the house = 80% of 1 = 0.8

    M2 = 32 −M; D2 = 8; W2 = Remaining 20% = 0.2

    M1D1 TW= M2D2 T2W1

    ∴ 32 × 12 × 0.2 = (32 − M) × 8 × 0.8

    ∴ M = 20men

    Mahesh needs to have (32 − 20 =)12 men working to complete the remaining work of house in decided target of 20 days.

    Hence, the correct option is (A).

    If x, y, and z are positive integers such that x < y < z, is x a factor of the odd integer z ?

    (1) x and y are prime numbers, whose sum is a factor of 57

    (2) z is a factor of 57

    Solution

    We are told that z is an odd integer.

    (1) x and y are prime numbers, whose sum is a factor of 57. The factors of 57 are 1, 3, 19 and 57. Since we are told that x and y are prime numbers then x can only be 2 and y can only be 17 (x+y=19). If x=2(even) it cannot be a factor of the odd integer z. Therefore the first statement is sufficient to answer the question.

    (2) z is a factor of 57. This statement is insufficient as we do not have any information about x.

    Only the first statement is sufficient to answer the question.

    Hence, the correct option is (A).

  • Question 7
    4 / -1

    If the length of a rectangle is increased by 20% and the width is decreased by 20%, then the area?

    Solution

    Applying successive percentage increase formula, we have

    Hence. the area decreases by 4%.

  • Question 8
    4 / -1

    A motor boat goes 12 km upstream and back again to the starting point in 40 minutes and 30 seconds. If the speed of the stream is 4 km/hr, then find the speed of the motorboat in downstream.

    Solution

  • Question 9
    4 / -1

    Select the correct combination of mathematical signs to replace ‘*’ signs and to balance the given equation:

    78 * 3 * 4 * 36 * 140

    Solution

    Let’s solve the question with the help of options

    Option A: 78 - 3 + 4 × 36 = 219 (Not possible)

    Option B: 78 ÷ 3 × 4 - 36 = 68 (Not possible)

    Option C: 78 ÷ 3 × 4 + 36 = 140 (True)

    Hence, the correct option is (C).

  • Question 10
    4 / -1

    Amit is younger than Arjun by 6 years. If the ratio of the ages of Amit and Arjun is 5:7, then what is the age of Amit(in years)?

    Solution

    Amit: Arjun

    5 : 7

    Let Amit age is 5x and Arjun age is 7x

    Difference between their ages is 7x − 5x = 2x

    ⇒ 2x = 6

    ⇒ x = 3

    Amit age is 5 × 3 = 15 years

    Hence, the correct option is (C).
