  • Question 1
    1 / -0
The angle between reflected ray and the _______ is called angle of reflection
    Solution
Angle of reflection is defined as the angle made by the reflected ray with the normal of reflecting surface.
  • Question 2
    1 / -0
If a lens diverges a parallel beam of light, the lens is -
    Solution
Concave  lens diverges a parallel beam of light.
    Answer-(B).

  • Question 3
    1 / -0
An image which can be only seen by the eye but cannot be taken on a screen is called a ________ .
    Solution
Virtual images cannot be taken on a screen as they are not formed by the actual intersection of light rays, but they can be seen by the eyes. Ex: Image seen in a plane mirror.
  • Question 4
    1 / -0
If the refractive index of water and glass with respect to air are, respectively, $$\displaystyle \frac {4}{3}$$ and $$\displaystyle \frac {3}{2}$$ then what will be the refractive index of glass with respect to water?
    Solution
Refractive index of medium 1 w.r.t. medium 2 is given by,

    $$^{2}\mu_{1} = \dfrac{\mu_{1}}{\mu_{2}}$$

    Hence according to question,

    Refractive index of glass, $$\mu_{g}=\dfrac{3}{2}$$

    Refractive index of water, $$\mu_{w}=\dfrac{4}{3}$$

    Hence $$^{w}\mu_{g}=\dfrac{\mu_{g}}{\mu{w}}$$

    $$^{w}\mu_{g}=\dfrac{9}{8}$$
  • Question 5
    1 / -0
Calculate the magnification of an object if it is kept at a distance of $$3 cm$$ from a concave mirror of focal length $$4 cm$$:
    Solution
    Given:
    Object distance $$u=-3cm$$
    Focal length $$f=-4cm$$

    By mirror formula,
    $$\dfrac{1}{u}+\dfrac{1}{v}=\dfrac{1}{f}$$
    $$\dfrac{1}{-3}+\dfrac{1}{v}=\dfrac{1}{-4}$$
    $$\dfrac{1}{v}=\dfrac{1}{12}$$
    So, image distance $$v= +12 cm$$

    Magnification $$m=-\dfrac{v}{u}$$
    $$=-\dfrac{+12}{-3}=+4$$

    Option D is correct.
  • Question 6
    1 / -0
When a ray of light strikes a plane mirror along the normal, the angle of incidence is -
    Solution

Angle of incidence is the angle made by incident ray and normal to the mirror. Here, the ray incidents along normal so,
From the figure, angle of incidence$$=0^{\circ}$$.

  • Question 7
    1 / -0
A spherical mirror whose inner hollow surface is the reflecting surface is:
    Solution
A concave mirror is a part of spherical mirror whose inner hollow surface is a reflecting surface.

  • Question 8
    1 / -0
The distance between the pole and centre of curvature of a spherical mirror is called _________ .
    Solution
The radius of the sphere of which the spherical mirror forms a part is known as radius of curvature of the spherical mirror.
  • Question 9
    1 / -0
    Identify the mirror

    Solution

$$ \bf{Convex\ Mirror} $$ is a curved mirror where the reflective surface bulges out, towards the light source.

$$ \bf{Concave\ Mirror} $$ is a curved mirror where the reflective surface is curved inwards.

In the figure, the reflective surface is curved inwards. Therefore, it is a concave mirror. Hence, the correct answer is option B.
  • Question 10
    1 / -0
A spherical mirror with its outer bulging surface as the reflecting surface is a :
    Solution
Convex mirror is a part of spherical mirror having its outer bulging surface as reflecting surface.
