This type of farming is still practiced in a few pockets of India. This type of farming depends upon monsoon, natural fertility of the soil and compatibility of other environmental conditions with the crops that are grown. 

The Bhoodan movement or Land Gift Movement was a voluntary land reform movement in India that was started by Acharya Vinoba Bhave the spiritual heir of Mahatma Gandhi in 1951. Vinobha Bhave undertook padyatra to spread Gandhiji’s message covered almost the entire country. Some poor landless villagers demanded some land for their economic well-being.Suddenly, Shri Ram Chandra Reddy stood up and offered 80 acres of land to be distributed among 80 landless villagers. This act was known as ‘Bhoodan’. Later he travelled and introduced his ideas widely all over India.  Some zamindars, owners of many villages offered to distribute some villages among the landless. It was known as Gramdan. 

Cucumber is one of the important Zaid crops that is grown in the months between March and June. It is a summer crop and requires dry weather. It is very sensitive to frost conditions and yield is very high in moderate warm temperatures.

Sandy loamy soils and clay soils with high organic matter is proved good for the cultivation.

The Northern Spring Wheat region (III) of the United States is physically similar to the Canadian Prairies. Spring wheat is the major crop of North Dakota and much of Montana. Barley, durum, flax, sunflowers, oats, and other small grains are also produced.

Sugarcane grows well in tropical regions with 75 - 100 cm of rainfall well-distributed throughout the year. However, irrigation is necessary in areas of lower rainfall or even in areas of higher rainfall during the long dry spells.

• Green Revolution is the Intensive plan of the 1960s to increase crop yields in developing countries by introducing higher-yielding strains of plant and new fertilizers
  
• It developed new strains of high yield variety seeds, mainly wheat and rice and also millet and corn.
  
• The green revolution of wheat and rice left pulses becoming the next preference. 
  

Castor seed is grown in both Rabi and Kharif seasons. Castor seed is the source of castor oil, which has a wide variety of uses. Castor is an important non-edible oilseed crop and is grown especially in arid and semi-arid region.

Subsistence farming is characterised by small and scattered land holdings and the use of primitive tools, like a hoe and digging sticks by family members. As the farmers are poor, they do not use fertilisers or (HYV) seeds in their fields. Most of the food production is consumed by the farmers and their families.

Gram is a rabi crop and is most important of all the pulses and accounting for 37 per cent of the total production and 28.28 per cent of the total area of pulses in India.

Ragi (Finger millet) is very rich in iron, calcium and other micronutrients and roughage.
