  • Question 1
    1 / -0
    Find $$x$$, if $$\dfrac {1}{4!}-\dfrac {1}{x}=\dfrac {1}{5!}$$.
    Solution

  • Question 2
    1 / -0
$$A$$ and $$B$$ can complete a task in $$12$$ days. However, $$A$$ had to leave a few days before the task was complete and hence it took $$16$$ days in all to complete task. If $$A$$ alone could complete the work in $$21$$ days, how many days before the work getting over did $$A$$ leave?
    Solution

B can alone do the work
    $$=\dfrac{1}{\dfrac{1}{12}-\dfrac{1}{21}}$$ days

    $$\implies \dfrac 1B = \dfrac{7-4}{84}=\dfrac{3}{84} = \dfrac1{28}$$

    $$=28$$ Days

Let $$A$$ worked $$X$$ days, So

Work done by $$A+$$ Work done by $$B =1$$

    $$\dfrac{X}{21} +\dfrac{16}{28} =1$$

    $$\implies \dfrac{X}{21} = \dfrac{12}{28}$$

    $$\implies X=9$$

Hence, $$A$$ worked for $$9$$ days means $$A$$ left work before $$( 16-9)= 7$$ days of completion.

  • Question 3
    1 / -0
A takes $$5$$ days less than $$B$$ to complete the work. Both complete the work in $$6$$ days. In how many days $$A$$ complete the work?
    Solution
    From given, we have,

    $$\dfrac{1}{x}+\dfrac{1}{x+5}=\dfrac{1}{6}$$

    $$6\left(x+5\right)+6x=x\left(x+5\right)$$

    $$x^2+5x-30=12x+30-30$$

    $$x^2-7x-30=0$$

    $$(x-10)(x+3)=0$$

    $$\therefore x=-3,10$$

    Days can't be negative.

Therefore, the number of days A uses to complete the work is $$10$$ days.
  • Question 4
    1 / -0
Ram and Shyam together can do a work in $$16$$ days. Shyam takes twice time as Ram takes to do the same work. In how many days Shyam alone can complete that work?
    Solution
    Given,

    Shyam+Ram=Shyam-Ram

    $$\Rightarrow \dfrac{1}{2x}+\dfrac{1}{x}=\dfrac{1}{16}$$

    $$8+16=x$$

    $$\therefore x=24$$

Total days Shyam takes to complete work $$=2x=2\times 24=48$$ days
  • Question 5
    1 / -0
Ram and Shyam together can do a work in $$16$$ days. Shyam takes twice time as Ram takes to do the same work. In how many days Ram alone can complete that work.
    Solution
    From given, we have,

    Shyam+Ram=Shyam-Ram

    $$\dfrac{1}{x}+\dfrac{1}{2x}=\dfrac{1}{16}$$

    $$\Rightarrow 16+8=x$$

    $$\therefore x=24$$

Ram takes $$24$$ days to complete the work
  • Question 6
    1 / -0
$$4$$ men or $$6$$ women can do a work in $$42$$ days. The number of days $$12$$ men and $$3$$ women would take to finish the work is
    Solution
Let the amount of work done by $$1$$ man in a day be $$m$$, and that done by $$1$$ woman be $$w$$.

    Now, $$4m = 6w$$

    Or, $$w = \dfrac{2m}{3} ……… (1)$$

Also, amount of work done by $$4$$ men in a day $$= 4m$$

    Or $$4m = \dfrac{1}{42}$$

    Or, $$m =\dfrac {1}{168} ……… (2)$$

    Using $$(1)$$ and $$(2)$$, amount of work done by $$12$$ men and $$3$$ women in a day is $$12 m + 3w$$

    $$=12 m + 2m$$ (substituting $$w$$ from $$1$$)

    $$= 14 m$$

    $$= 14/168$$

    $$= 1/12$$

So, the total work will be completed in $$12$$ days.
  • Question 7
    1 / -0
$$40$$ conservancy workers were employed for $$10$$ days to clean buildings affected by floods. The number of additional workers required to complete the work in $$4$$ days is
    Solution
$$40$$ workers can clean the building in $$10$$ days

Number of workers required to clean the building in $$1$$ day $$=40\times 10=400$$

Hence, number of workers required to clean the building in $$4$$ days $$=\dfrac{40\times 10}{4}=100$$

So, number of additional workers required$$=100-40=60$$.
  • Question 8
    1 / -0
$$39$$ persons can repair a road in $$12$$ days, working $$5$$ hours a day. In how many days will $$30$$ persons, working $$6$$ hours a day, complete the work?
    Solution
    Given,

Let the required number of days be $$x$$.

    $$\left.\begin{matrix} Persons & 30:39 \\ Working hours/day & 6:5 \end{matrix}\right\} ⋮⋮ 12:x$$

    $$\Rightarrow 30 \times  6 \times  x = 39 \times  5 \times  12 $$

    $$\therefore x= 13$$

    Hence the number of days.
  • Question 9
    1 / -0
The number of ways in which $$9$$ persons can be divided into three equal groups, is
