  • Question 1
    1 / -0

    Directions For Questions

Samples of $$O_2, CO $$ and $$ CO_2$$ under the same conditions of temperature and pressure contain the same number molecules represented by $$X$$. The molecules of oxygen occupy V liters and have a mass of 8 g under the same conditions of temperature and pressure.

In answering the above questions, which law has been used? [C=12, N=14, O=16]
    Solution
Avogadro's law states that, "equal volumes of all gases, at the same temperature and pressure, have the same number of molecules".
  • Question 2

What is the mass of $$CO_2$$ in grams?
    Solution

CO2=44×0.25=11gmAvogadro's law states that, "equal volumes of all gases, at the same temperature and pressure, have the same number of molecules".
    Moles of $$O_2$$ $$=\dfrac{8}{32} = 0.25 $$
    so mass of $$CO_2 = 44\times0.25 = 11 gm$$
  • Question 3
    1 / -0
    The volume occupied by 53.5 g of $$ Cl_2$$ is :
    Solution
    One mole of a gaseous substance occupies $$22.4 \ L$$ sovolume occupied by $$53.5$$ g of $$Cl_2 = 53.5\times\dfrac{22.4}{71} = 16.87  \ L$$.
  • Question 4
    1 / -0
The gases chlorine, nitrogen, ammonia and sulphur dioxide are collected under the same conditions of temperature and pressure. If 20 litres of nitrogen contains 'x' no. of molecules, state the no. of molecules in 20 litres of ammonia.
    Solution
According to avagadro's law, equal volume of gases contains equal number of molecules. Therefore,  20 litres of ammonia will contain x number of molecule.
  • Question 5
    1 / -0
A vessel contains N molecules of oxygen at a certain temperature and pressure. How many molecules of sulphur dioxide can the vessel accommodate at the same temperature and pressure.
    Solution
As both have same volume and according to avagadro's law, equal volume of gases contains equal molecules so sulphur dioxide contains N molecules.
  • Question 6

What is the volume occupied by X molecules of $$N_2$$?
    Solution
Avogadro's law states that, "equal volumes of all gases, at the same temperature and pressure, have the same number of molecules".
So, X molecules of of $$N_2$$ occupies V litre volume.
  • Question 7

What is the volume occupied by $$3X$$ molecules of $$CO$$?
    Solution
Avogadro's law states that, "equal volumes of all gases, at the same temperature and pressure, have the same number of molecules".
So, $$3X$$ molecules of $$CO$$ occupies $$3V$$ liter volume.
  • Question 8
    1 / -0
Sodium chloride ($$NaCl$$) reacts with silver nitrate ($$AgNO_3$$) to produce silver chloride ($$AgCl$$) and sodium nitrate ($$NaNO_3$$). The law which satisfies this equation is ___________________ .
    Solution
    Reaction:

                   $$NaCl+AgNO_3 \rightarrow AgCl+NaNO_3$$

    Mol :       1 mol          1 mol           1 mol         1 mol
    Mass :    58.5 g        170 g         143.5 g     85 g

Total mass of reactants is equal to the total mass of products. This is the law of conservation of mass.
  • Question 9
    1 / -0
A vessel contains X number of molecules of hydrogen gas at a certain temperature and pressure. Under the same conditions of temperature and pressure, how many molecules of nitrogen gas would be present in the same vessel?
    Solution
Avogadro's law states that, "equal volumes of all gases, at the same temperature and pressure, have the same number of molecules" so same volume of nitrogen will have X number of molecules.
  • Question 10
    1 / -0
Which of the following is a suitable example for illustrating the law of conservation of mass? (Atomic mass of O = 16 u; H = 1 u)
    Solution
According to law of conservation of mass
Mass of reactants $$=$$ Mass of products
    $$H_2 + O_2\rightarrow 2H_2O$$
    $$4 g$$      $$32 g$$        $$36 g$$
    $$2 g$$      $$16 g$$         $$18 g$$
    $$2g + 16g = 18 g$$
    Therefore, correct option is $$A$$.
