The tendency of BF3, BCl3,  and BBr3 to behave as Lewis acid decreases in the sequence:

    Solution

The strength of Lewis acid is in the order of: BBr3 > BCl3 > BF3. as the size of halogen acid increases the acidic strength of boron halide increases thous BF3 is the weakest acid  This is because of  the tendency of the halogen atom to form back bonding by its lone pairs of electrons to the vacant p-orbitals of boron. In BF3 this back bonding is formed by the overlap of 2p-2p orbital (same energy). Thus the tendency to accept lone pair (Lewis acid property) decreases. But in case of BBr3 and BI3 the back bond is formed by p orbitals of different energy, thus less effective.

    P4O10is the anhydride of

    Solution

P4O10 is the anhydride of H3PO4

    P4O10 + 6 H2O → 4 H3PO4

Which of the following statements regarding ozone is not correct?

    Solution

bond order of O-O bond in ozone is less than that in oxygen.

Ozone molecule can be represented as resonance hybrid of two canonical structures, each structure have one single bond on one side and double bond on the another side.

Which of the following contains P- O - P bond?

    Solution

Pyrophoshoric acid (also known as diphosphoric acid) contains P-O-P bond. Molecular formula of pyrophoshoric acid is H4P2O7

Which noble gas is most abundant in atmosphere?

    Solution

There's so much Ar in the atmosphere because most of it was produced by a long-lived radioactive isotope of potassium in the earth's crust and released over geologic time

The reaction of P4 with X leads selectively to P4O6. The X is

    Solution

    p4 + 3O2 =P4O6( in presence of N2 )
(N2 is used to retard the further oxidation.)

Which of the following reactions of xenon compounds is not feasible?

    Solution

    1st reaction is not feasible.

    Rather the opposite reaction happens

    XeF6 + 3 H2O → XeO3 + 6 HF

In which of the following arrangements, the sequence is not strictly according to the property written against it?

    Solution

As we move down the group basicity decreases. As we go down the group size of atom increase, the availability of lone pair decreases. Because it occupies a larger volume. Thus basic character of hydrides decreases as follows: NH3>PH3>AsH3>SbH3
