  • Question 1
    1 / -0
Choose the correct meaning of the idiom/phrase.

    To be above board
    Solution
'To be above board' means done in an honest way according to the rules and law. E.g. The admission process of the St. Soldiers School was completely fair and above board. Thus, option B is the correct meaning of the idiom.
  • Question 2
    1 / -0
Choose the word which best fills the blank from the four options given.

Which programme do you want to ______?
    Solution
See is the ordinary verb to say that something ‘comes to our notice’ and does not necessarily mean that we pay attention to it.
When we look at something we are trying to see what it is – we are paying attention.
Watch has a similar meaning to 'look' but we usually use watch for TV shows, events, etc.
Observe means to notice or perceive (something) and register it as being significant.
Here, the sentence is talking about a programme (or an event) and so the best word to use is 'watch' and the correct answer is option B).
  • Question 3
    1 / -0
Complete the sentence with the most suitable option:

My uncle gave me a gold watch on the ___________ of my $$17^{th}$$ birthday.
    Solution
Option C: 'Occasion' refers to 'a particular time, especially when something happens or has happened'. It refers to a special event, like a birthday.
It can be used here to refer to the person's 17th birthday here. A birthday is an
occasion that naturally occurs every year. Hence option C is correct.

Option A: 'Time' is a 'measurement of the existence in seconds, minutes, days and centuries'. It does not form a complete meaning here.
Option B: 'Event' is when 'something important happens'. 'Events' are organised social or public happenings. While looking for the most suitable option, 'occasion' is more favourable than 'event', as it's closer in meaning.
Option D: 'Celebration' means 'a special social event', like a party. The sentence does not indicate that any celebration is happening on the birthday, hence this isn't a suitable option.
These words do not form a complete meaningful sentence.
Hence options A, B and D are incorrect.

    Directions For Questions

[passage-header]Read the passage and answer the question that follows:[/passage-header]
The camel is the oldest of domestic animals. It has been used for thousands of years by the desert people of Asia to supply many of their needs. On the fertile edges of the desert, camels pull ploughs, turn wheels to irrigate the fields and carry goods to the market. In the desert itself, they are still almost the only means of transport. They supply food and clothing in the form of wool and leather.
This useful animal is well adapted to life in harsh, arid lands. The Arabian camel has one hump; the Bactrian camel has two. The hump is, in fact, a store of fat which is used as a source of energy when food and water are scarce. When it does drink, the camel can take up 100 litres of water in ten minutes. The camel has broad, soft feet to form a steady grip in the sand. A thick skin protects it from  the fierce day time sun and bitterly cold nights. The camel's eyes have three eyelids to help protect them from sand; its ears and nose are also adapted to keep out sand storms.
Camels stand about two meters high at the shoulder and weigh 500-800 kilos. Often called "The ships of the Desert", they can carry loads of 200 kilos and more, travelling up to 16 kilometers a day.Camels eat grass, dates, and grain when available. Deep in the desert, they survive on dry leaves, seeds, and bones.
