Choose the correct future tense form of the verb given in the bracket.
We don't think our teacher _____ (meet) us again.
    Solution
The word 'again' suggests that the sentence is in the future tense.
Option B is the correct form of the verb here, and it represents a simple future tense.
In option A 'be' is missing in 'will be meeting' therefore it isn't the right form of future continuous tense.

    Consider the line:
'I was trying to climb a tree when my foot slips'
    Solution
The context refers to an action in past continuous tense. The form of the sentence is S + was + (verb + ing) + O. Thus, the second verb will also follow the same tense.
The error is in option A. "Slips" should be replaced with "slipped" as it indicates an action of the past to concur with the tense of the sentence.
Option B "trying" is the correct form of the verb (try + ing = trying).
Option C "climb" is correct. "Climbing" indicates the present continuous tense which means an action that is taking place at the time of speaking.
Option D "was" indicates the action in past as reported in a magazine, the context implies that this is a retelling of something that has already occurred.
Thus, option A show the error and is the correct choice.
  • Question 3
    1 / -0
Fill in the blank with the appropriate form of the verb.
He said that he ______ for a walk this evening.
    Solution
Here, 'would go' in simple future tense is correct because it is used as the past form of will when reporting what somebody has said or thought. Here, 'he' said that he 'would go' for a walk in future (evening).
    'Will' is
used for showing that somebody is willing to do something or is used for asking somebody to do something. Example: Will you get up from that chair?
'Has been going' in present perfect continuous tense is used to indicate an action that started st some point in the past and may or may not be complete.
'Is' is used to indicate an action that is going on at the time of speaking.
Example: The child id going to the school.
  • Question 4
    1 / -0
Change the sentence with the correct form of future tense of the verb given in the bracket.

Tomorrow, my mother _________ (take) us to the movies.
    Solution
The event that is being talked about, has not happened yet. It will take place in the future. When talking about future events that are certain or represent a fact, we us Simple Future Tense.

Simple Future Tense is usually of the form -
    Subject + "will" + verb

Here the verb is "take". Thus, the right form would be -
    Subject + "will take"
    Thus, Option D is correct.
  • Question 5
    1 / -0
Fill the blank with the correct form of the verb given in brackets.
If you study hard, you ______ (get) good grades in exams.
    Solution
The sentence contains 'if' which shows that it is a conditional sentence. The situation described in the sentence is a likely or possible one, so the sentence is in the first conditional. For first conditional sentences, the 'if clause' is written in the present tense while the main clause is written as 'will + base form of verb.'

... away and left me. Meanwhile, I regain consciousness ...
    Solution
'Found' in the next sentence represents simple past tense therefore 'regain' should also take the simple past form which is regained. Therefore regain will be replaced by regained.
Option A is the correct answer,

"Ran' in the previous sentence also represents simple past tense, therefore left should also be in the simple past form that is left itself. It is correct.

'Consciousness' is a noun and expresses the state of being aware, however 'conscious' is an adjective and means being awake or alert. Consciousness is correctly used in the sentence.

'Or' is used to link alternatives. But in the sentence 'ran away' and 'left me' are to be taken jointly and not as alternatives. Therefore and is correctly used in the sentence.

Options B, C, D are therefore incorrect. Option A is the correct answer.

  • Question 7
    1 / -0
Fill in the blank with the appropriate form of the verb.
We _____ at the news of her defeat yesterday.
    Solution
Here, 'were surprised' in simple past tense is correct because it is used to indicate an action that has already been completed. Here, the news of defeat has already come (an event that happened in past). Thus, 'were surprised' is correct.
'Is surprised' in simple present tense is incorrect because it is used to indicate a future event on a designated date as a part of the plan. Example: He is surprised at the course of events that were unfolding.
'Have been surprised' in present perfect continuous tense is incorrect because it is used to indicate an action that started at some point in the past and may or may not be complete.
Example: The candidates have been surprised at the election results.
'Surprised' does not fit in the sentence.
