    Solution
    S.P of the article =Rs.1000
    rate of sales tax=8%
The price paid by the customer to buy the article$$=1000+8\%  of 1000$$
    $$\Rightarrow 1000+\frac{8}{100}\times 1000$$
    $$\Rightarrow 1000+80=Rs.1080$$

    ...view full instructions

    Solution
    M.P of the article =Rs.20000
    Discount=15% and 10%
    C.P after discount$$=20000\times \frac{85}{100}\times \frac{90}{100}=Rs.15300$$
    Rate of sales tax=10%
    Sales tax amount=10% of 15300$$=\frac{10}{100}\times 15300=Rs.1530$$
  • Question 3

The catalogue price of a colour T.V. is Rs. 24,000. The Shopkeeper gives a discount of 8% on the list price. He gives a further off season discount of 5% on the balance. But Sales Tax at 10% is charged on the remaining amount. Find:
The final price he has to pay for the T.V.
    Solution
    List price=Rs. 24000
    Discount=8%
    Price after first discount$$=24000-\frac{8}{100}\times 24000$$
    $$\Rightarrow 24000-1920=Rs.22080$$
    Another discount=5%
    Price after second discount$$=22080-\frac{5}{100}\times 22080$$
    $$\Rightarrow 22080-1104=Rs. 20976$$
    Sales tax=10%
    Amount of sales tax$$=\frac{10}{100}\times 20976=2097.6$$
    Final price of the T.V$$=20976+2097.60=23073.6$$
  • Question 4
    1 / -0
The marked price of an article is Rs. $$900$$ and the rate of sales-tax on it is $$6\%$$. If on selling the article at its marked price, a retailer has to pay VAT= Rs. $$4.80$$. find the money paid by him (including sales-tax) for purching this article.
    Solution
Let the profit of the retailer be Rs.$$x$$
VAT paid by the shopkeeper is Rs.$$4.80$$ at the rate of sales tax $$6\%$$
    $$\therefore$$ $$6\%$$ of $$x=4.80$$
    $$\Rightarrow \dfrac{6}{100}x=4.80$$
    $$\Rightarrow x=\dfrac{4.80\times 100}{6}\\\ \ \ \ \ \ \ =Rs.80$$
$$\therefore$$ cost price to the retailer $$=900-80$$
                                              $$=Rs.820$$
Sales tax paid by the retailer $$=6\%$$ of $$820$$
    $$\Rightarrow \dfrac{6}{100}\times 820=Rs.49.20$$
$$\therefore$$Price of the article including sales tax paid by the retailer$$=820+49.20=Rs.869.20$$

  • Question 5
    1 / -0
A toy is purchased for Rs. 591.36 which includes 12% rebate on the printed price and 12% Sales Tax on the sale price of the toy. Find the printed price of the toy.
    Solution
Let the sales price of the toy=Rs.x
    Then according to the question
    $$\Rightarrow x-\frac{12x}{100}=591.36$$
    $$\Rightarrow \frac{100x-12x}{100}=591.36$$
    $$\Rightarrow 88x=591.36\times 100$$
    $$\Rightarrow x=\frac{59136}{88}=Rs.672$$
    Let the printed price =Rs.y
    $$\therefore y+\frac{12y}{100}=672$$
    $$\Rightarrow \frac{100y+12y}{100}=672$$
    $$\Rightarrow y=\frac{672\times 100}{112}=Rs.600$$
