  • Question 1
    5 / -1

Read the statements and decide which of the conclusions logically follows from the given statement.

    Statement:

"The pedestrian crossing is a few feet away, it's safe to use," a mother told her child.

    Conclusions:

    1. Pedestrians should use pedestrian crossings for safety.

    2. All children know what a pedestrian crossing is.

    Solution

    The logic follows here is:

    Conclusions:

    1. Pedestrians should use pedestrian crossings for safety → True (This is logically correct with regards to the statement.)

    2. All children know what a pedestrian crossing is → False (This is logically incorrect with regards to the statement as nothing is mentioned whether children should know or not, we can't assume anything on our own).

Hence, the correct answer is "Only conclusion 1 follows".

    Additional Information

    • If there are two or more sentences that are used to frame a statement, then, the sentences must be interrelated, and mutual contradiction should be there.
    • Do not look for truthful notions. The information provided in the statement is the only requirement for a student to answer the question. No assumptions must be made.
    • Read the statement carefully and look for keywords that are common between the statement and the conclusions
    • If there is more than one conclusion that is applicable to the statement, students must ensure that the conclusions they opt for have some relation with each other.
  • Question 2
    5 / -1

Directions: In the question below is given a statement followed by two courses of action numbered I and II. You have to assume everything in the statement to be true and on the basis of the information given in the statement, decide which of the suggested course of action logically follow(s) for pursuing.

Statement: Few terrorists are hiding inside an old building in Delhi.

    Courses of action:

I: The government should send military forces to Delhi.

II:  The government should offer them to shift in the outskirts of Delhi.

    Solution

After knowing the fact that the terrorists are hiding at a certain place the Government should send armed forces as this is a national issue.

    Therefore, I follows.

On the other hand, the second course of action is vague and totally unrealistic. It is practically not possible to achieve such an action.

Therefore, offering them to shift somewhere is completely out of question.

    Hence, II does not follow.

  • Question 3
    5 / -1

Direction: In the given question a statement is followed by two conclusions numbered I and II. You have to assume everything in the statement to be true, then consider the two conclusions together and decide which of them logically follows beyond a reasonable doubt from the information given in the statement.

    Statement:

Customer service cannot be enforced. It has to come from within.

    Conclusions:

    I. Customer service should be voluntary.

II. Employees do not serve customers.

Find which of the given conclusions logically follow from the given statement.
    Solution

When anything is not enforceable then it becomes voluntary.

As per first statement, customer service is not enforceable, and then it becomes voluntary.

So, The conclusion I follows with the statement.

There is no information about the service done by employees.

So, the second conclusion does not follow.

    Hence, only conclusion I follows.
  • Question 4
    5 / -1

In this question, a statement is given, followed by four conclusions given as options. Choose the conclusion that logically follows from the given statement.

    Statement:

In a report by WHO, it has been stated that those who have good immunity are less prone to have Corona infection.

    Conclusions:

    1. Those who have corona eat a lot of junk food.

    2. Corona is a dangerous disease.

    3. Eating a lot of healthy food would increase the chances of being affected by Corona.

    4. Eating food that increases immunity is good to prevent Corona infection.

    Solution

Hence, the only conclusion IV follows.

    1) Those who have corona eat a lot of junk food → False → The statement does not give any information about the food habits of Corona patients.

    2) Corona is a dangerous disease → False → The statement does not give any information about the impact of the disease.

    3) Eating a lot of healthy food would increase the chances of being affected by corona → False → The statement does not give any information about the causes of Corona infection.

    4) Eating food that increases immunity is good to prevent one from Corona infection → True → This conclusion is supported by the statement, as in the statement it is clearly mentioned that WHO has stated in a report that those who have good immunity are less prone to have corona.

Hence, ‘Eating food which increases immunity is good to prevent one from Corona infection’ is the correct answer.

  • Question 5
    5 / -1

Directions: In each of the Questions below is given a statement followed by assumptions/arguments numbered I and II. Consider the statement and decide which of the given assumptions is implicit. Please select your answer, considering one of the following:

Statement: Should number of holidays of government employees be reduced?

Argument I: Yes. Our government employees are having maximum number of holidays among the other countries of the world.

Argument II: Yes. It will lead to increased productivity of government offices.
    Solution

    Option(2) is correct.

Argument I: Yes. Our government employees are having a maximum number of holidays among the other countries of the world: Our country may have the maximum number of holidays but reducing the number of holidays because other countries have fewer holidays is not convincing, even some countries like Srilanka, Iran, etc. have more public holidays, So Argument I is not strong.

Argument II: Yes. It will lead to increased productivity of government offices: Yes this argument is true as if we decrease the holidays, number of working hours increased this will leads to increased productivity of government offices. So, Argument II is strong.

Hence, the correct answer is option(2) i.e., Only argument II is strong.

  • Question 6
    5 / -1

Two statements I and II are given. These statements may be either independent causes or may be the effects of independent causes or a common cause. One of these statements may be the effect of the other statement. Read both the statements and decide which of the following options correctly depicts the relationship between these two statements.

    Statements:

    I. The school bus with teachers and students couldn't reach the school on time.

II. A major accident took place on the road blocking the traffic.

    Solution
    1. A bus reaching the school late cannot cause a major accident on the road. Therefore, option 1 is eliminated.
    2. It is not possible to establish a common event that can cause the delay of a school bus as well as a major road accident. - Therefore, option 2 is eliminated.
    3. A major road accident obstructing the traffic can cause the school bus to reach late in the school. Therefore, I and II cannot be independent causes. Therefore, option 3 is eliminated.

Hence, statement II is the cause and statement I could be its effect.

  • Question 7
    5 / -1

Directions: In the question, a statement is given, followed by two arguments, I and II. You have to consider the statement to be true even if it seems to be at variance from commonly known facts. You have to decide which of the given arguments, if any, is a strong argument.

Statement:  Should political cartoons be regulated?

    Argument:

    I. Yes, under the pretext of free expression, they may prove to be divisive.

II. No, they are one of the best ways to provide insight into key social issues, events, and power relations.

    Solution

The statement poses a simple question about political cartoons being regulated.

Argument I is strong as it states cartoonists in the name of freedom of expression (a fundamental right) can promote dissent and division.

Argument II is strong as it suggests that political cartoons are one of the best ways to shed light on social events, power relations, etc.

    Hence, Both arguments are strong.

  • Question 8
    5 / -1

Consider the given statement and decide which of the given assumptions is/are implicit in the statement.

Statement : 'Installing a soft-drink vending machine on the school campus is a bad idea.' A parent speaking in a parents-teacher meeting.

    Assumptions:

    I. The parent believes that a vending machine will increase student consumption of soft drinks.

II. There is no other way in which students can buy a soft drink when they are in the campus.

    Solution

    Assumptions:

    I. The parent believes that a vending machine will increase student consumption of soft drinks.

The statement says that the parent is against the installation of a soft drink vending machine on the school campus as it will impact the health of the students.

Therefore, it can be safe to assume that the parent believes that a vending machine will increase student's consumption of soft drink

Thus, the assumption I is implicit.

II. There is no other way in which students can buy a soft drink when they are on campus.

There is nowhere mentioned in the statement that there is no other way in which students can buy a soft drink, as students can also buy a soft drink from the canteen as well.

Therefore, it cannot be assumed that there is no other way in which students can buy a soft drink when they are on campus.

Thus, assumption II is not implicit.

Hence, the correct answer is "Only assumption I is implicit".

  • Question 9
    5 / -1

Select the statement, which is the logical equivalent to the given statement.

"If the weather breaks, then we can sail."

    Solution

Given statement: "If the weather breaks, then we can sail."

    1) We can sail if the weather doesn't break. → False, as in the statement it is given "If the weather breaks, then we can sail".

    2) We cannot sail if the weather doesn't break.  → True, as in the statement it is given "If the weather breaks, then we can sail" which also means that we cannot sail if the weather doesn't break.

    3) The weather doesn't break or we sail. → False, This is incorrect.

    4) We can sail or the weather breaks. → False, In the given statement either or condition is not given. Hence, false.

Hence, We cannot sail if the weather doesn't break is the correct answer.

  • Question 10
    5 / -1

In the question given below, there are two statements marked as Assertion (A) and Reason (R). Mark your answer as per the codes in options.

Assertion (A): Tea becomes cold after some time when kept outside.

Reason (R): Heat flows from a hotter object to a colder object till they attain the same temperature.

    Solution

    Concept:

    • Heat is a form of energy that is measured in terms of Joule or calories.
    • When there is a temperature difference between two bodies, the heat starts to flow.
    • The body which has a higher temperature is called the hotter body.
    • The body that has a lower temperature is called the colder body.
    • Heat flow can occur via conduction, convection, or radiation.
    • Heat flows from an object which is at a higher temperature to a body of lower temperature or from a hotter body to a colder one.
    • Heat continues to flow until the heat content of the two bodies become equal.
    • At this point, the temperature of the two bodies is the same and they have reached thermal equilibrium.

How Does Heat Flow? – STEAM Blog

    • For example, if a body A is at 100°C and the other body B is at 50oC, heat will flow from A to B until the temperature of both A and B is 75oC.
    • When the temperature of the two bodies is the sameno heat flow will occur.

Hence, Tea becomes cold after some time when kept outside because, Heat flows from a hotter object to a colder object till they attain the same temperature.
