  • Question 1
    5 / -1

    Two sets of numbers are given below. In each set of numbers, certain mathematical operation(s) on the first number result(s) in the second number. Similarly, certain mathematical operation(s) on the second number result(s) in the third number and so on. Which of the given options follows the same set of operations as in the given sets?

    (NOTE: Operations should be performed on the whole numbers, without breaking down the numbers into their constituent digits. E.g., 13 – Operations on 13 such as adding/subtracting/multiplying to 13 can be performed. Breaking down 13 into 1 and 3 and then performing mathematical operations on 1 and 3 is not allowed.)

    14 – 196 – 186 – 172 ; 15 – 225 – 215 – 200

    Solution

    The logic followed here is:

    14 – 196 – 186 – 172

    142 = 196 → 196 - 10 = 186 → 186 - 14 = 172

    And,

    15 – 225 – 215 – 200

    152 = 225 → 225 - 10 = 215 → 215 - 15 = 200

    So, checking each option one by one:

    Option 1) 9 – 81 – 71 – 62

    92 = 81 → 81 - 10 = 71 → 71 - 9 = 62

    Option 2) 3 – 9 – 19 – 14

    32 = 9 → 9 - 10 = (-1) → (-1) - 3 = (-4) ≠ 14

    Option 3) 8 – 64 – 54 – 40

    82 = 64 → 64 - 10 = 54 → 54 - 8 = 46 ≠ 40

    Option 4) 6 – 36 – 26 – 22

    62 = 36 → 36 - 10 = 26 → 26 - 6 = 20 ≠ 22

    Thus, out of all the options, '9 – 81 – 71 – 62' follows the same logic as given.

    Hence, "Option 1" is the correct answer.

  • Question 2
    5 / -1

    At 3:40, the hour hand and the minute hand of a clock form an angle of:

    Solution

    Concept:

    Angle = |(30 × hour - (11/2) × minutes)|

    Calculation:

    We have,

    ⇒ Hour = 3

    ⇒ Minutes = 40

    Using the formula:

    ⇒ Angle = |(30 × 3 - (11/2) × 40)|

    ⇒ Angle = |(90 - 220)|

    ⇒ Angle = |-130|

    ⇒ Angle = 130º

  • Question 3
    5 / -1

    If 5th March 2009 is Thursday, then what day of the week will be on 11th March 2016?

    Solution

    Given: 5th March 2009 was Thursday.

    Now,

    2009 to 2016 = 7 Years (5 Ordinary Years and 2 Leap Years).

    And, In 7 Years = 2 Leap Years and 5 Ordinary Years.

    So, 2 Leap Years have 4 odd days,

    And, 5 Ordinary Years have 5 odd days.

    Total odd days = 4 + 5 = 9.

    9 odd days → 9/7 = 1 week and 2 odd days.

    then, 5th March 2016 will be Thursday + 2 = Saturday.

    Now, the number of days between 5th March 2016 to 11th March 2016 = 6 days.

    So, 11th March 2016 will be Saturday + 6 = Friday.

    Hence, the correct answer is "Option 4".

  • Question 4
    5 / -1

    Amongst six people, D, E, F, G, H, and I, each has a different age. They are standing in a line according to their age in an increasing order. F is older than E but younger than D. D is younger than I. E is older than G. G is older than H. Who comes in 4th position in increasing order of age?

    Solution

    Given: Amongst six people, D, E, F, G, H, and I, each has a different age.

    1) F is older than E but younger than D.

    D > F > E

    2) D is younger than I.

    I > D > F > E

    3) E is older than G.

    I > D > F > E > G

    4) G is older than H.

    I > D > F > E > G > H

    So, F comes in 4th position in increasing order of age.

    Hence, the correct answer is "F".

  • Question 5

    All 40 students of a class are standing in a straight line facing north. Ashok is 21st from the right end, while Ali is 15th from the left end. How many students are standing between Ashok and Ali?

    Solution

    Given: 40 students

    Ashok is 21st from the right end

     Ali is 15th from the left end

    So, students between Ashok and Ali = 40 - 21 - 15 = 4

    So, there are '4' students between Ashok and Ali

    Hence, the correct answer is "Option 1".

    Sudha is the wife of Anand. Kavita is the mother of Gaurav. Anu is the daughter of Ravi, who is the brother of Aryan. Anu's mother Kavita is the daughter-in-law of Anand.

    How is Sudha related to Aryan?

    Solution

    Preparing the family tree by using the following symbols:

    As per the given information:

    • Sudha is the wife of Anand.
    • Anu's mother Kavita is the daughter-in-law of Anand.

    • Anu is the daughter of Ravi, who is the brother of Aryan.
    • Kavita is the mother of Gaurav.

    Clearly, Sudha is 'Mother' of Aryan.

    Hence, the correct answer is "Mother".

  • Question 8
    5 / -1

    An Assertion (A) and a Reason (R) are given below.

    Assertion (A): Water is a universal solvent.

    Reason (R): Water can dissolve more substances than any other.

    Choose the right option.

    A. Both A and R are correct and R is the proper explanation of A.

    B. Both A and R are correct but R is not a proper explanation of A.

    C. A is correct but R is false.

    D. A is false but R is correct.

    Solution

    Assertion (A): Water is a universal solvent.

    Reason (R): Water can dissolve more substances than any other.

    Water is capable of dissolving a variety of different substances, which is why it is such a good solvent. And, water is called the "universal solvent" because it dissolves more substances than any other liquid.

    So, the assertion and reason are true and the reason is the proper explanation of assertion.

    Hence, the correct answer is "A".

    Additional Information

    It is water's chemical composition and physical attributes that make it such an excellent solvent. Water molecules have a polar arrangement of the oxygen and hydrogen atoms—one side (hydrogen) has a positive electrical charge and the other side (oxygen) has a negative charge. This allows the water molecule to become attracted to many other different types of molecules. Water can become so heavily attracted to a different molecule, like salt (NaCl), that it can disrupt the attractive forces that hold the sodium and chloride in the salt molecule together and, thus, dissolve it.

  • Question 10
    5 / -1

    Read the given information carefully and answer the questions related to it.

    A, B, C, D, E and F are sitting in a row. The mouth of 3 is facing the north and the face of 3 is towards the south side.

    i) A is sitting in the north from the left side of E to the third position.

    ii). D and C are neighbors whose faces are in the same direction.

    iii) None of the A and E are sitting on any end of the line.

    iv) B is sitting second from the left of C.

    v) The face of B, A and F is in the same direction.

    Which of the following statements is incorrect as per the above arrangement of seating?

    Solution

    Given: A, B, C, D, E and F are sitting in a row. The mouth of 3 is facing the north and the face of 3 is towards the south side.

    1) A is sitting in the north from the left side of E to the third position.

    2) None of the A and E are sitting on any end of the line.

    3) The face of B, A and F is in the same direction.

    4) D and C are neighbors whose faces are in the same direction.

    5) B is sitting second from the left of C.

    As B, A, and F face the same direction and E faces the north direction, therefore according to given condition of an equal number of people faces north and south sides B, A and F will be facing south side.

    So, the rest i.e. C, D, and E will be facing the north side.

    After positioning D, C, and B only one position is left which will be occupied by the only person left i.e. F.

    Thus, according to the final arrangement:

    Option 1) C's mouth is in the south → Incorrect as C faces north.

    Option 2) E and F are neighbors → Correct

    Option 3) Both B and F are sitting on the last ends of the line → Correct

    Option 4) A is sitting fourth from the right of F → Correct

    Hence, "Option 1" is the correct answer.
