  • Question 1
    5 / -1
If 370 students appeared for an examination, of which 352 passed, then the find the pass percentage (approximate).
    Solution

    Given:

    No of students = 370

No of students passed = 352

    Formula used:

Pass percentage = No of students passed/Total students × 100

    Calculation:

    ∴ Pass percentage = 352/370 × 100

    ⇒ 95.13%

    ⇒ 95% (Approximately)

  • Question 2
    5 / -1
    if 20% of x is 30 and 35% of y is 70, then find the value of (x + y).
    Solution

    Given:

    20% of x = 30

    35% of y = 70

    Calculation:

    According to the question

    0.2x = 30

    ⇒ x = 150

    Again, According to the question

    0.35y = 70

    ⇒ y = 200

    ∴ x + y = 200 + 150 = 350

  • Question 3
    5 / -1
The population of a town increases 5% annually. If its present population is 74970, what it was 2 years ago?
    Solution

    Given:

The population of a town increased = 5%

    Present population = 74970

    Formula used:

    Population after each increment = x × (100 + r)/100

    Calculation:

Let the population of city 2 years before be x

    Then,

    ⇒ x × (105/100) × (105/100) = 74970

    ⇒ x = 74970 × (20/21) × (20/21)

    ⇒ x = 68000

∴ The population 2 years ago is 68000

  • Question 4
    5 / -1
25% of a number is 20, what is 40% of that number
    Solution

    Given:

    25% of a number is 20

    Calculation:

Let the number be = a

    25% × a = 20

    ⇒ 25/100 × a = 20

    ⇒ a = 20 × 100/25 = 80

    ∴ 40% of a = 40/100 × 80 = 32

    Alternate Method 25% = 1/4

    ⇒ 1/4 = 20

    ⇒ 4 = 20 × 4 = 80

    ∴ 40% of the number = 2/5 × 80 = 32

  • Question 5
    5 / -1
On the first day, 84500 people visited a trade fair. On the 4th day, the number was reduced to 16900. By what percentage were people reduced on the 4th day?
    Solution

    Given:
No of visitors on day 1 = 84500
No of visitors on day 4 = 16900
    Calculations:
    Reduce in number of visitors = 84500 - 16900 = 67600
    ∴ The required reduce percentage = \(\frac{84500 - 16900}{84500} \times 100\) = 80%

  • Question 6
    5 / -1
Salary of a man was Rs. 20,000. the same was increased by 14%, find the new salary ?
    Solution

    Given:

    salary of a man = Rs. 20,000

    Increment in salary = 14%

    Formula Used:

Increased salary = Old salary + increment in salary

    calculation:

    Increment of salary by 14%

    14% of Rs 20,000 = 2800

    ⇒ New salary of a man = 20,000 + 2800

    ⇒ Rs. 22,800

∴ The new salary of man will be Rs. 22800.

  • Question 7
    5 / -1
Ram bought a television for Rs. 16000. If the value of the television decreases by 5% annum, then what will be the value of the television after 3 years?
    Solution

    Given :

Ram bought a television for Rs. 16000.

Rate of television decreases by 5% every year

    Calculations :

    Rate of television after 1 year = 16000 - 5% of 16000

    ⇒ 16000 - 800

    ⇒ 15200

    Rate after 2 years = 15200 - 5% of 15200

    ⇒ 15200 - 760

    ⇒ 14440

    Rate after 3 years = 14440 - 5% of 14440

    ⇒ 14440 - 722

    ⇒ 13718

∴ Option 4 is the correct choice.

    Alternate Method

    Rate of television after 3 years = 16000 × (100 - 5)/100) × (100 - 5)/100) × (100 - 5)/100)

    ⇒ 16000 × (19/20) × (19/20) × (19/20)

    ⇒ 13718

∴ Option 4 is the correct choice.

  • Question 8
    5 / -1
A student has to obtain 35% of the total marks to pass. He got 135 marks and failed by 40 marks. The maximum marks are _______.
    Solution
    Given:

A student has to obtain 35% of the total marks to pass. He got 135 marks and failed by 40 marks.

    Formula Used:

Pass marks = Marks received + Marks by which he/she fails

    Calculation:

Let the maximum marks be 'x'

    ⇒ pass marks = 135 + 40 = 175

also, pass marks = 35% of the total marks

    ⇒ 175 = 35/100 × x

    ⇒  x = 500

    ∴ Required maximum marks = 500

  • Question 9
    5 / -1

    What is the value of (42% of 7200) - (12% of 4800)?

    Solution

    42% of 7200 = 0.42 × 7200 = 3024

    12% of 4800 = 0.12 × 4800 = 576

    ∴ 3024 - 576 = 2448

  • Question 10
    5 / -1
In an election between 2 candidates, one got 60 percent of the total valid votes, 20 percent of the total votes were invalid. If the total number of votes were 8000, how many valid votes did the other candidate get?
    Solution

    Given:

The total number of votes = 8000

    Formula used:

    GM% = (GM/TM) × 100     Where, GM = The gain marks, and TM = The total marks

    Calculation:

Let us assume the other candidate got valid votes be X

    ⇒ The total valid votes = 8000 × (80/100) = 6400

    ⇒ The other candidate got valid votes X = (100% - 60%) of 6400 = (40/100) × 6400 = 2560

∴ The required result will be 2560.
