  • Question 5
    4 / -1

If the number “741259 AB” is divisible by 40, then for the least value of A, the value of 5A + 3B is:

    Solution

    Given:

    “741259AB” is divisible by 40

    741259AB

    Checking for 5:

The value of B has to be 0 or 5 to be divisible by 5

As it has to be divisible by 40, it has to be even. So, B has to be 0

    Number becomes 741259A0

    Now checking for 8:

    Last 3 digits = 9A0

Dividing 9A0 by 8, A has to be 2 or 6 (as 1 will remains when 9 will be divided by 8) for it to be completely divisible by 8.

  • Question 6

Several litres of milk was drawn off a 27 litre container full of milk which was replaced by an equal amount of water. The same volume of the mixture was drawn off again and replaced with water. Finally, the container contained 12 litres of milk. How much milk was initially drawn?

  • Question 7
    4 / -1

A rectangular plot is 122 m long and 88 m wide. It has a path 2 m wide all around it on the outside. Find the cost of constructing it at Rs. 2 per square meter.

    Solution

    Given:

Length of plot = 122 meters

    Plot width = 88 meters

Width of path = 2 meters

Cost of construction of path = Rs 2 per square meter

    Length = 122 m, Breadth = 88 m, Width = 2 m

Cost of the construction of the path = Rs 2 per sq m

Area of the rectangle = Length × breadth

Area of the path = Area of the plot including path – Area of the plot

    Area of the path= (122 + 4) × (88 + 4) – 122 × 88 = 856 m2

    ∴ Cost of constructing = 856 × 2 is Rs 1712

  • Question 8

The length of the base of a triangle is 5/7 of the base of a parallelogram. The area of the triangle and the parallelogram is the same. Find the ratio of the respective heights of the triangle and the parallelogram.

    Solution

∴ The required ratio of the respective heights of the triangle and the parallelogram is 14 ∶ 5.
