In class IX, the average of marks in science for six students was 48. After result declared, it was found in case of one student, the marks 45 were misread as 54. The correct average is:

    Solution

    Given:

Average marks of six students are 48. The mark 45 is misread as

Average = (Sum of all entry)/(Number of total entry)

Average marks of six students are 48

    Total marks of six students = 48 × 6

    ⇒ 288

The mark 45 is misread as 54

    Sum of numbers of five students is (288 – 54) = 234

Actual sum of marks of six students = (234 + 45)

    ⇒ 279

    The correct average = (279/6)

    ⇒ 46.5

∴ The correct average is 46.5

  • Question 2
    4 / -1

Ragini and Raghav can make a carpet respectively in 3 days and 12 days more than the time taken if both of them worked together. In how many days can Ragini alone make the carpet.

    Solution

    Given that:

Time taken by Ragini alone = 3 days more than both of them worked together

Time taken by Raghav alone = 12 days more than both of them worked together

Let the time both of them took to make the carpet be x.

    Time taken by Ragini alone = x + 3

    Time taken by Raghav alone = x + 12

∴ One day of work when they both work together = Sum of their individual per day work

  • Question 3
    4 / -1

    If the mode of the scores 10, 12, 13, 15, 15, 13, 12, 10, x is 15, then what is the value of x?

    Solution

    Given scores 10, 12, 13, 15, 15, 13, 12, 10, x and mode = 15

The mode of the n observation is the number that has the highest frequency.

    Frequency of score '12' = 2

    Frequency of score '15' = 2

But for mode to be 15, x should be '15'.

The greatest number of four digit which is divisible by 15, 25, 40 and 75 is:

    Solution

The greatest number of four-digit is 9999.

    L.C.M. of 15, 25, 40 and 75 is 600.

On dividing 9999 by 600, we get the remainder of 399.

    ∴ Required number = (9999 - 399) = 9600
