  • Question 3

    The market price of a car was Rs. 9,40,000. Mr. Suman bought the same for Rs. 8,46,000. What was the discount?

    Solution

    Given:

    Market price = Rs. 9,40,000

    Selling price = Rs. 8,46,000

    For formula, Discount = market price – selling price

    Discount = Rs. 9,40,000 – Rs. 8,46,000

    = Rs. 94,000

  • Question 5
    4 / -1

    The average height of a family of three members is 140 cm and when two more members A and B added to that family, the average height is increased by 8 cm. If A is 36 cm taller than B, then what is the height of B?

    Solution

    Sum of heights of three persons = 140 × 3 = 420 cm

    Sum of heights of five persons = 5 × (140 + 8) = 740 cm

    Let the height of A and B be x and (x - 36) respectively.

    Sum of heights of A and B = x + (x - 36) = 740 - 420

    ⇒ 2x - 36 = 320

    ⇒ x = 178

    Therefore height of B = x - 36 = 142 cm

  • Question 6
    4 / -1

    A river flows at 4 km/hr. The speed of a boat in downstream is thrice the speed of that boat in upstream. Find out the speed of the boat in still water?

    Solution

    Let the speed of boat in still water be 'x' km/hr

    Let the speed of boat in downstream and upstream be 'd' km/hr and 'u' km/hr respectively

    Then, as per question

    d = 3 × u

    ⇒ x + 4 = 3×(x - 4)

    ⇒ x + 4 = 3x - 12

    ⇒ x = 8

    ∴ Speed of boat in still water is 8 km/hr.
