  • Question 1

The ratio between the length and the breadth of a rectangular plot is 6: 5. If the perimeter of the plot is 484 metres, what is its area?

    Solution

Let the length of the rectangular plot be 6x

And the breadth of the rectangular plot be 5x

    According to the given information:

The perimeter of the rectangular plot is 484

    As we know, the perimeter of a rectangle = 2(l + b)

    2(6x + 5x) = 484

    ⇒ 2(11x) = 484

    ⇒ 22x = 484

    ⇒ x = 22

    ⇒ The length of the rectangular plot is 6 × 22 = 132 m

And the breadth of the rectangular plot is 5 × 22= 110 m

Thus, the area of the rectangular plot is L × B

    ⇒ 132 × 110 = 14520 sq.metres

So, the area of the rectangular plot is 14,520 sq. metres.

What is the present age of Sanjeev?

    I.  Sanjeev is 4 years younger than Anuj. The ratio of the age of Anuj and Vipin is 4 : 5.

II.  Vipin is 1 year older than Sanjeev and the present age of Anuj is 20 years.

III.  The present age of Sanjeev is 5 years less than the age of Mohan.

    Solution

    From Statement I:

    Let Anuj \(=4 {x}\), Vipin \(=5 {x}\)

    Sanjeev \(=4 x+4\)

    From Statement II:

    Anuj \(=20\) years, Sanjeev \(=x\), Vipin \(=x+1\)

    Statement III:

Let age of Mohan \(={m}\) years

    Sanjeev \(=m-5\) years

    From Statement \(I+\) Statement II:

    Anuj \(=20\) years, Vipin \(=\frac{20}{4 x} \times 5 x=25\) years

    Sanjeev \(=25-1=24\) years

Statement I and II both are necessary to answer the question.

    Directions For Questions

Direction: Below given a question and three statements numbered I, II and III. You have to decide whether the data provided in the statements are sufficient to answer the question. Read all the statements and give answer:

What is the length of the train X?

    I.  Two trains X and Y running in opposite directions and cross each other in 25 seconds.

II.  The length of the train Y is 320m and the difference between the speeds of trains X and Y is 14 km/h.

III.  The ratio of the speed of the trains is 19 : 26.

    Solution

    From Statement I:

    Time \(=25\) seconds

    Relative speed \(=\frac{\text { length of trains }}{\text { time }}\)

    \(=\frac{\text { length of trains }}{25}\)

    From Statement II:

    Length of train \(Y=320 {~m}\)

    Difference of speed \(=14 {~km} / {h}\)

    From Statement III:

    Let the speeds \(=19 {x}, 26 {x}\)

Statement \(I+\) Statement II + Statement III

    \(26 x-19 x=14\)

    \(7 x=14\)

    \(x=2\)

    Speed \(=52 {~km} / {h}, 38 {~km} / {h}\)

    \((52+38) \times \frac{5}{18}=\frac{({a}+320)}{25}\)

    \(25 \times 25={a}+320\)

    \(625-320={a}\)

    \(a=305 {~m}\)

Therefore, all the statements are necessary to answer the question.

Ramakant cycles at the speed of \(10\) km/hr and walks at the speed of \(3 \) km/hr. Then Ramakant takes 8 hours to cover a distance of \(45\) km. How many of these kilometers were covered by cycle?

    Solution

    Given:

    Speed of cycling \(=10\) km/hr

    Speed of walking \(=3\) km/hr

Total time taken to cover \(45\) km \(=8\) hours

    Distance \(=\) Speed \(\times\) Time

Let the time for which Ramakant do cycling be \(x\) hr.

Time for which Ramakant do walking \(=(8-x)\) hr

    According to the question,

    \(\Rightarrow 10 \times x+3 \times(8-x)=45\)

    \(\Rightarrow 10 x+24-3 x=45\)

    \(\Rightarrow 7 x=21\)

    \(\Rightarrow x=3 \) hr

    Distance covered by cycle \(=(10 \times 3)\) km/hr

    \(=30\) km/hr

\(\therefore\) Required distance covered by cycle is \(30\).

  • Question 5

If the product of two numbers is 192 and the HCF is 8, then the ratio of HCF and LCM is:

    Solution

    We know that,

Product of two numbers = LCM × HCF

    ⇒ 192 = LCM × 8

    ⇒ LCM = 24

    Therefore, ratio of HCF and LCM = 8 : 24 = 1 : 3

Direction: What will come in place of question mark (?) in the following number series?

    ...view full instructions

    5, 26, ?, 124, 37, 342

    Solution

The pattern of given series can be explained as:

    22 + 1 = 5

    33 – 1 = 26

    42 + 1 = 17

    53 -1 = 124

    62 + 1 = 37

    73 - 1 = 342

    ∴ The value of ? is 17.
