  • Question 1
    4 / -1

If s0,s1,s2 and s3 are the solubilities of AgCl in water, 0.01MCaCl2,0.01MNaCl and 0.05MAgNO3 solutions, respectively, then

    Solution

  • Question 2
    4 / -1

How many σ and π bonds are there in benzoic acid?

    Solution

    There are 7 carbon-carbon σ bond, 5 carbon-hydrogen σ bond, 2 carbon-oxygen σ bond and 1 oxygen-hydrogen σ bond. So in total, there are 15σ bonds. There are 3 carbon-carbon π bonds and 1 carbon-oxygen π bond. So, in total there is a 4π bond.

Hence, the correct option is (A).

  • Question 3

Which one of the following is employed as a Tranquilizer drug?

    Solution

Valium is a tranquilizer drug. It is mainly used to treat anxiety, insomnia, and symptoms of acute alcohol withdrawal. It acts by enhancing the effects of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain.

Hence, the correct option is (B).

  • Question 4

In the electrolytic method of obtaining aluminium from purified bauxite, cryolite is added to the charge in order to

    Solution

In the electrolytic method of obtaining aluminium from purified bauxite, cryolite is added to the charge because it reduces the melting point of Bauxite (from 1200oC to 800o−900oC) and also it increases the electrical conductivity of the mixture.

Hence the correct option is (B).

  • Question 5
    4 / -1

Standard enthalpies of formation of CO2(g), CO(g), N2O(g) and NO2(g) in kJ/mol are -393, -110, 81 and 34, respectively. What is the value of ∆H (in kJ) in the following reaction?

    2NO2 (g) + 3CO (g) → N2O (g) + 3CO2 (g)

    Solution

    Genius Reaction is ,

    N2O4(g) + 3CO(g) -----> N2O(g) + 3CO2(g)

    we know,

heat of reaction ( ∆rH°) = ( sum of heat of formation of products ) - ( sum of heat of formation of reactants )

    e.g., ∆rH° = [∆fH°(N2O) + 3fH°(CO2) ] - [∆fH°(N2O4) + 3fH°(CO) ]

    Given, enthalpy of formation of CO, CO2 , N2O, and N2O4 are -110, -393 , 81 and 9.7 KJ/mol respectively .

    now, ∆rH° = [81 + 3(-393)] - [9.7 + 3(-110)]

    = -777.7 KJ
Hence, the correct option is (A).

  • Question 6
    4 / -1

A 5.0-g sample of spinal fluid contains 3.75 mg (0.00375 g)  of glucose. What is the percent by mass of glucose in spinal fluid?

    Solution

The spinal fluid sample contains roughly 4 mg of glucose in 5000 mg of fluid, so the mass fraction of glucose should be a bit less than one part in 1000, or about 0.1%. Substituting the given masses into the equation defining mass percentage yields:

Hence, the correct option is (D).

  • Question 7
    4 / -1

Which of the following is a tetradentate ligand?

    Solution

Triethylenetetramine (TETA and trien), also called trientine (INN), is an organic compound with the formula [CH2NHCH2CH2NH2]2. This oily liquid is colorless but, like many amines, assumes a yellowish color due to impurities resulting from air-oxidation. It is soluble in polar solvents.

Tetradentate ligands are ligands that bind with four donor atoms to a central atom to form a coordination complex.
Hence, the correct option is (B).

  • Question 8
    4 / -1

In which of the following processes are ΔH and ΔU equal to zero?

    Solution

During the cyclic process, change in internal energy is zero, and no work is said to have done. As system returns to the initial state,

We know that, dH=dE+PdV, in cyclic process,dE=0 and PdV =0, Then dH=0

Hence, the correct option is (B).

  • Question 9
    4 / -1

An endothermic reaction A → B has an activation energy of 50 kJ/mole and the energy of the reaction is 15 kJ/mole. The activation energy of the reaction B → A is

    Solution

For an endothermic reaction, the activation energy for the backward reaction is equal to the difference of the activation energy of the forward reaction and the enthalpy change of the reaction.

Thus, the activation energy of the reaction B→A is 50−15=35 kJ/mole

Hence, the correct option is (C).

  • Question 10
    4 / -1

In the reaction 2 A+B→A2B, if the concentration of A is doubled and that of B is halved, then the rate of the reaction will
