Solution

The intense heating of surface of Earth by the sun rays in the absence of atmosphere will cause burning temperatures during the daytime. However, due to absence of atmosphere, the Earth's surface will lose this heat quickly and will have freezing temperatures during the night. Hence, atmosphere provides greenhouse effect and retains the heat energy making life possible on Earth.
