  • Question 1
    1 / -0

When a positive integer is added to an integer, the resulting integer is

    Solution

Let us go through the answer by taking examples:
    Example:
    (i) Add 4 to 9 (4 is the positive integer and 9 is the given integer)
    = 4 + 9 = 13

    13 > 9
(ii) Add 4 to -7 (4 is the positive integer and - 7 is the given integer)
    = 4 + (- 7) = 4 - 7 = - 3
    - 3 < 4

Thus, we see in the above cases, adding positive integer (4) to both positive and negative integers results in an integer which can be both smaller than and greater than the given number.
So, when a positive integer is added to an integer, the resulting integer is sometimes greater than the given integer. (Not always)

  • Question 2
    1 / -0

Which of the following options shows the correct order of numbers?

    Solution

The correct order is given in option (3).
    12 > 6 > 0 > - 3 > - 10
The numbers are arranged from biggest to smallest.
12 is the biggest and -10 is the smallest of all the given numbers.

  • Question 3
    1 / -0

If total of 2 numbers is - 36 and one of the numbers is - 16, then find the second number.

    Solution

According to question, let the second number be x.
    We get,
    - 16 + x = - 36
    x = - 36 + 16
    x = - 20

  • Question 4
    1 / -0

    Find the value of -140 + 243 - (- 16) + 50 - 13 - (- 32).

    Solution

    According to given question,
    - 140 + 243 + 16 + 50 - 13 + 32
    = 103 + 66 - 13 + 32
    = 169 - 13 + 32
    = 156 + 32
    = 188

  • Question 5
    1 / -0

Multiplying a positive and negative integer will always give a _______ result.

    Solution

    For example,
    - 5 x 14 = - 70
    So, it gives negative result.

  • Question 6
    1 / -0

Which of the following statements is true?

    Solution

    Statement (2) is true.

    For example, - 15 + 20 = 5
    And, - 35 + 20 = - 15
So, sum of a positive and a negative integer sometimes gives a positive result and sometimes a negative result.

Statement 1: The sum of two negative integers sometimes gives negative result, which is false because sum of two negative integers always gives negative integers.
Statement 3: The sum of two positive integers is sometimes positive, which is false because sum of two positive integers is always positive.

Statement 4: The sum of two negative integers is always 0, which is false as well.
    Hence, option (2) is correct.

  • Question 7
    1 / -0

    Solve by subtracting - 3102 from (- 2150) - (- 6785).

    Solution

By solving the given expression, we get
    (- 2150) - (- 6785)
    = - 2150 + 6785 = 4635
    Now, 4635 - (- 3102)
    = 4635 + 3102
    = 7737

  • Question 8
    1 / -0

The temperature of a town on Monday was - 6°C and on Tuesday, it was 8°C. Find the temperature difference of these two days.

    Solution

    Temperature on Monday = - 6°C
    Temperature on Tuesday = 8°C
    Difference = 8 - (- 6)
    = 8 + 6
    = 14
    So, difference is 14°C.
